Overall Satisfaction with Dropbox
I use Dropbox for working files. These are files I need access to from a number of computers and my iPad.
This saves me from having to save files on USB drives for transferring from one computer to another, saving a lot of time. I also ensures that whatever computer I am using, I know I am working on the latest version of a file.
i use it for all file types, including video production.

Pros
- Quickly syncs files
- Provides a backup of files
- It’s always available, so it is reliable
Cons
- I’d like to run Dropbox from an external drive, rather than my computer’s internal drive.
- Dropbox Capture had promise, but development ceased and now it’s being withdrawn. It would have been good to see this being developed into an AI assisted short video production tool.
- I use Apple’s Time Machine to find old versions of files, so making this functionality simpler on Dropbox would be useful. I’m sure it can be done, but I don’t recall ever working out how to find earlier versions of files on Dropbox.
- Improves productivity
- Reliability reduces downtime
Dropbox feels like an integral part of the OS. I do have some files on iCloud, but 99% of my work is in Dropbox. I think Office 365 sharepoint feels like a beta software relic from the 1990s. Google Drive is part of a different ecosystem and feels foreign and less trustworthy. It doesn't feel like it’s part of the OS.
