Overall Satisfaction with G Suite

We standardized on G Suite as our "collaboration" tool years ago. However, for us, it is far more than just a "collaboration tool." Yes, we use it for Google Drive/Docs/Sheets and Gmail, but we also have used it extensively for Identity Management. We expect all tools we use to fully integrate with G Suite for authentication. It has led to a more secure but also user-friendly environment.

Pros

  • Email.
  • Access to files anywhere.
  • Identity Management.

Cons

  • Direct customer service (account reps).
  • Messaging.
  • Departmental file sharing.
  • Ease of use.
  • Easy to restore PCs because all user files are on GoogleDrive, not the local machine.
  • Email is solid and arguably the most reliable tool in our institution.
G Suite for us came down to a few things. Most importantly it is a solid product which doesn't bog down the browser due to sloppy code. It's just snappy when users are in the tools, they don't have to wait around for things to happen. Licensing is also a factor. We don't need an attorney or another outsider to help us sort out licensing. We also don't have to worry about costs changing every 12 months. Lastly, it's just simple to use which keeps users happy and actually using the tools.
Most importantly G Suite is affordable compared to its competitors. It is also incredibly solid with email. We do not have problems with viruses and phishing that many of our peers have that are on other products.

I wish TeamDrives were better. One of our departments was an early adopter and unfortunately even today TeamDrives still disappoints for group/departmental file sharing.
