Overall Satisfaction with Google Chat
We are using Google Chat for day-to-day collaboration within the team. It fulfills our needs for fast communication. Within a Google Suite, Google Chat is not bad. However, if you ever used Slack - Google Chat would be not nice for you at first glance I believe. Mainly because of the missing functionality compared to Slack: e.g., missing automation and bots in my experience, markdown is not fully supported in my experience, creation of the spaces, low/missing integration with other apps (e.g., GitLab) in my experience. However for simple communication - it's not bad. To sum up, Google Chat is ok, if you need to communicate, however loses to Slack in diversity of automation, integration and IMHO usability in my opinion.
- Communication between users
- GIFs & emojis
- Creating tasks from messages and putting those in Calendar
- More versatile markdown (e.g., adding 2 levels of points, code snippets etc.)
- Provide automations and writing bots (same as on Slack)
- Improve threads (they are not prominent and easy to lose sight of)
- It has a good impact on collaboration
- It has overall good ROI
- Slack and Microsoft Teams
The main reason why we chose it - the overall G Suite solution, that we bought. We have Google Calendar, GMail & Chat built in. In order not to waste money - we decided to use Google Chat. It works fine, however, as said before, if you had experience with Slack - then you might not like it in my opinion.
