Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use CA for analyis as well as operational reporting and support an extranet for group and provider utilization reporting.

Alternatives Considered

MicroStrategy Analytics, Microsoft Power BI and Tableau Desktop

We have alot of resources already invested in Cognos and it would be a humongous effort to migrate. CA is more inline with Power BI and Tableau now that there are dashboarding capabilities.

Self-Service

We just migrated to CA this year so we are still struggling with switching our model to self service.

Extremely! As we are a healthcare insurance company, we are driven by mandates from the government and have strict policies to follow. CA allows permissions to be set at most of the levels we require.

Reporting

We have some reports that are 1000 queries and 50+ pages. Using report views, we are able to build one and use for our 500+ employer groups, providing them valuable information to drive their own business decisions. These reports are branded and contain many custom icons which CA does beautifully.

For users who are not tech savy, having reporting emailed to them is a nice touch. However these same users need a better/less complicated way to design their own adhoc reports (ie, Query Studio). The new Reporting interface is too complex for casual users.
