Overall Satisfaction with InEight
We use InEight mainly for the Progress module to track manpower/payroll and the Control module to track progress of Scope estimate items. The cost breakdown structure is easy to use with forecasting to track remaining cost to complete. Progress is great for tracking cost and manhours to specific activities.
Pros
- Tracking labor and equipment hours to specific estimated scope line items
- Creating detailed work breakdown structures within Estimate and using that same structure to apply cost to during the job
- Creating custom data blocks in control to track progress and create forecasts
Cons
- Document module feels clunky and difficult to use. RFI creation should be streamlined, almost like it's own section of the module.
- Schedule integration with Control & Progress modules.
- Change module should have the ability to detailed change orders from scratch, whether Lump Sum or T&M. Right now it's only useful to plug in numbers and use as a log. There is no detailed cost/price breakdown buildout.
- Ability to see current overall costs on any CBS line item, and forecast remaining cost for that line item is something we've never had before.
- Increased the accuracy of our estimates
- Better project planning in place
Tracking costs at a more detailed level was a huge objective, and InEight provides and easy solution for that. It has helped identify areas of potential savings by reduction in manpower to achieve the same outcome. Helping to identify deficiencies in estimating by using benchmarking for detailed cost items. Uniform estimating is also in place to ensure consistency no matter who estimates a job.
The two items that set InEight apart was the estimating module with the ability to track cost to the exact estimate line item and the ability to export manhours to payroll. The other software's were either lacking or deficient in these items.
