Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft Power BI

We use Microsoft Power BI to create dashboards and visualizations across the organisation. These are used across the business by various stakeholders. We pull data from various data tables from Microsoft SQL server and then create visualizations straight into Microsoft Power BI. This can correspond to subscriber engagement, user engagement, business KPIs, historical trends etc.

Pros

  • Great for integration with broader Microsoft Ecosystem (SQL server, excel, etc).
  • Visualization options are straightforward and easy to use.
  • Quite affordable in comparison to competitors.
  • Power Query built in.

Cons

  • Limits when exporting data into an excel file.
  • No version control
  • Visualizations could be prettier.
  • Overall cheaper than other similar tools, so higher ROI given current needs.
  • Ability to optimise queries to save costs.
  • The fact that it is part of the microsoft ecosystem allow easier integration and no need to purchase any other tool.
I would give 8 as it is a tool that fits our needs well. It is easily usable as the interface feels very familiar to users from various backgrounds. The drag and drop interface is very simple to create visuals without the need to code. The seamless integration with Microsoft ecosystem is great.
After several years using Google Looker Studio and BigQuery, Microsoft Power BI is a step-up in terms of visualizations. It is also much more powerful, leading to less errors and has a more intuitive interface. Looker Studio has a focus on Google Analytics whereas Microsoft Power BI allows greater integration of multiple data sources.

Microsoft Power BI is an intuitive tool. It is great to start with especially if a company is already familiar with the overall Microsoft ecosystem. Intuitive interface with drag and drop which allow users to quickly build dashboards and visualizations on their own. Microsoft Power BI is less advanced/customable than other competitors such as Tableau or Looker but is cheaper.
