Overall Satisfaction with Miro

I had been using Miro sporadically before the pandemic, but with all staff effectively working from home, Miro became one of my organization's main ways to collaborate effectively on a variety of tasks and projects. The power of Miro became clear when I joined a new team required to set up a new service from scratch within a hard one-year deadline with everyone on the team working remotely. Miro was invaluable for a myriad of tasks such as brainstorming service design, conducting user research, mapping processes as well as some of the typical Agile ceremonies like Show & Tells and Sprint Retros. We also found it great for team building exercises and some of the templates that are available for icebreakers and ideation/brainstorming are excellent. As the project developed we found the linkage to other platforms such as Jira also very useful to ensure the status of user stories and epics were kept up to date on our user story maps. Overall, using Miro has been very positive. It does have its foibles (like any of the online collaborative platforms) but these are far outweighed by its ease of use, great range of adaptable and flexible templates, and interconnectivity.
  • Brainstorming
  • Service design
  • Mapping and visualisation for User Research
  • Flexible and adaptable templates
  • Can import / drag a variety of documents onto the boards
  • Can get a bit laggy when there a lot of large images or documents on a board
  • Sometimes trying to grab and move an object can be a bit fiddly - sometimes it thinks you want to type in the object, sometimes it thinks you want to link it to another.
  • Improved productivity
  • Reduced time to implementation
As the platform is online, there's nothing to install and a variety of plans are available to suit a range of business / individual needs with a range in levels of backup and security to suit most teams and organizations.
Miro doesn't require anything special apart from a compatible web browser and a decent internet connection. However, it does come with some fairly powerful integration options to connect to Jira and various "apps" to make tasks simpler.
Miro has allowed us to design new online and manual services from conception to delivery. Without Miro, it would have been much harder to brainstorm, visualize and design the process with a fully remote team unable to meet in person to work out many of the difficult issues faced. Miro's ease of use, a wide range of templates, and apps means you spend less time trying to create/draw items such as expandable tables, outline service, process maps, prototypes, and wireframes and spend more time actually adding value creating the required content.

I've used Jamboard at various online training events and it's easy to use and navigate, but it doesn't have the same range of features as Miro and is more like a slide deck in layout. The mural was one of the options that were evaluated as our team's collaboration tool at the start of lockdown. Almost everyone on the team found Miro far easier to pick up and use. Murals' range of templates also didn't appear to be very flexible (at the time - this was over a year ago, so may have changed since) or as wide-ranging as Miros.
Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Visio, Navisite Productivity and Collaboration (Microsoft Office 365 and MDM)
Possibly the best online team collaboration platform available. Works right through the team-building process (from forming through to norming). Can be used for the design of manual and digital services and a variety of other activities and comes with access to a wide range of flexible and adaptable templates to help you get going on that next task.
