Overall Satisfaction with Miro

Miro is a great place for solo and group ideation. I use it to make easy diagrams of expected product functionality, to share those ideas with partners, to organize my own thoughts, and to collaborate to come to group solutions. Even if we weren't in a largely virtual environment, a Miro board's permanence and features gives it far more utility than a classic whiteboarding session in a physical office space.

Pros

  • Group collaboration
  • Simple tools
  • Thought organization

Cons

  • Simplified interface for brand-new users -- about half of my meetings are with people who don't use Miro consistently, or at all
  • Better auto-formatting for things like tables and charts (or maybe I just haven't found the right tools?)
  • Improved meeting efficiency
Yes, it's been the top tool in our department for visual collaboration. While we could get by without it if we needed to and not every discussion needs it, I'm very glad we have it as an option.

Do you think Miro delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with Miro's feature set?

Yes

Did Miro live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Miro go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Miro again?

Yes

Figma could do the same thing as Miro, but is far more design-focused and, as a result, difficult for non-design folks to use. Trello and ADO do their focus features better than Miro can due to their increased structure, but they of course couldn't achieve the things that Miro is very good at (free-form, visual collaboration).
If you just want notes on a discussion, Miro isn't best for that -- it's ideally a visual tool that you supplement with text, not the other way around. For anything where visuals can be helpful, such as mind maps, product diagramming, etc., it's extremely useful.

Using Miro

  • Group collaboration
  • Recording research
  • Individual brainstorming (roadmapping, logging ideas, etc.)
I don't get to make the decision, but I do love the product! It certainly does whiteboarding better than my earlier experiences with Teams whiteboarding (Microsoft being our primary provider), and the base functions like sticky notes are very simple to explain to new users.

Using Miro

The basics like sticky notes are very easy to use: drag, drop, type. But as features get more complex, the UI declines a bit. For example, I love the "card" feature for its ability to include lots of detail hidden away with rich text formatting... but the fact that I can't just click or double-click on the card as a whole to open it gets old, fast.
