Overall Satisfaction with Miro

We use Miro to assist in journey mapping, workshopping, synthesis and presentation activities. These are often in hybrid settings but sometimes are used for in person collaboration as well.

Miro helps us to gather thoughts in a way that is fast, efficient, messy but manageable, and allows us to go from rough draft to presentable visuals in the same workspace.

Pros

  • Making the barrier to entry lower for less visual participants to leave thoughts, feedback and input in group settings
  • Organizing the flow of information in a workshop setting, and sharing out snapshots of much larger sets of information to the right stakeholders
  • Note taking in fast paced environments such as large group brainstorms and workshops

Cons

  • Miro does not rapidly copy and paste items containing text very well. This makes it difficult to create new shapes on the fly for transcription-style note taking
  • Miro has limited color and tone options for certain elements, making it difficult to adhere final visuals to brand style guides
  • Miro's scale (of online whiteboard spaces) can make it difficult to keep multiple frames at the same size, especially when iterating in workshops with numerous working areas
  • Increased our ability to reach across teams for information gathering workshops
  • Made our journey resources more easily shareable
  • Helped us get complex product initiatives off the ground faster and more holistically
Miro has definitely leveled the playing field for our hybrid team. It helps us leverage remote participants and capture all the feedback in meetings and workshops, and acts as a central resource for information while the project is in the discovery phase.

Do you think Miro delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with Miro's feature set?

Yes

Did Miro live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Miro go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Miro again?

Yes

For the time being, Miro offers more customizable sharing tools- sharing frames, scaling text more easily, linking assets more easily, and a more foolproof guest/login functionality that makes it a more sure bet during hybrid workshops.

Miro's lag when copying elements, and when managing complex spaces, are its most significant drawback in comparison. Lucid's chart and flow tools are also more easy to use.
Miro has a lot of benefits as an online whiteboarding and workspace tool. It makes collaboration easy across teams and organizations by offering guest accounts with no login needed, making it relatively simple to learn the controls and create notes, and encouraging messy participation where needed.

It struggles to keep pace as workspaces grow complex. Boards can become slow to load, and notes and shapes and elements can take too long to copy and paste in really rapid environments. While the benefits often outweigh the drawbacks, it is not my top choice for research note taking because of this, and we have to often be careful to set the right scope for a single board over time so that it doesn't grow too complex.
