Overall Satisfaction with Parallels Remote Application Server

It is used to provide all application access for about 2/3 of the users in our company, and also to provide remote application access to an additional set of users. We have deployed thin clients with a custom-developed OS which only connects to Parallels, allowing us to minimize the number of PCs which we have to deploy and manage, as well as giving us more control over application installation, configuration, and user experience.
  • Remote connectivity is simple to set up, maintain, and use, with very few complaints from users.
  • Publishing apps is very straightforward, much more so than other remote application platforms.
  • The client used to connect to the RAS can be problematic when using multiple screens.
  • Updates have introduced issues in the client (and user experience) more than once.
  • We are able to have a much larger implementation of Parallels, with maintenance always current, than we had with competitors, for far less investment.
  • The amount of employee time spent on maintenance is much less than before we used Parallels, and issues actually have a resolution with much greater frequency.
  • Citrix Virtual Apps (formerly XenApp)
Parallels is less expensive to both purchase and maintain, easier to implement, easier to support, and easier to comprehend overall. Also, the product name doesn't change every week.
The simplicity of Parallels setup and use is a huge benefit for both our users and our IT infrastructure team. Ongoing use rarely requires technical interaction, and updates are straightforward instead of terrifying (provided they are vetted in a test environment first).
We replaced a system for allowing remote users to access our systems and applications with the Parallels HTML5-based interface. While the previous system gathered nothing but complaints and reports of problems that could most often not be reproduced or resolved, the Parallels system has been virtually complaint-free.
We are fully virtualized using VMWare, so having support for that platform within the product is important.
The security controls available in the Parallels RAS are vital to our use, both internally and from outside our systems. A less-complete offering would most definitely limit its usefulness or reduce our comfort level in deploying this solution. We have also integrated the Parallels system with a two-factor authentication solution for our external users, and the ease of doing this has made the process of implementing that additional layer of security much simpler than anticipated.
Support has generally been excellent but the time between reporting an issue and a solution has been quite long at several points.
