Overall Satisfaction with Paylocity
We use Paylocity for human capital management, time punch management including time clocks at all sites, PTO processing and tracking, benefits management and enrollment, learning management, garnishment services, and payroll processing. While Paylocity does have friendly and knowledgeable customer support, we are constantly finding issues and bugs within the system. There is also difficulty in getting assistance from their expert teams (tax team, garnishment team) as the initial inquiry filters through the general customer support team and there are no direct points of contact for the higher-level teams. Overall, it is a good system but they need a better process for working out issues that arise.
Pros
- Our Account Manager provides excellent service
- We are always able to get through to a rep when calling for assistance
- The error audits provide great insights when processing payroll
Cons
- Direct contacts for expert support teams (tax, garnishment, etc.)
- All changes revolve around "Begin Check Dates" as opposed to effective dates, however, no changes are allowed for Begin Check Dates once a change is approved, which can leave bad data in an employee's profile. There should be an ability to make corrections to BCDs
- Tax files pull live data as opposed to being a static file that was saved using the information at the time of processing. This means that we do not have access to all historical files as needed
- Audit trails on employee profiles are not very user friendly and complicated to use
- We had payroll fraud that occurred but were able to work with Paylocity to change our security roles and approval processes to prevent this from happening again.
- The error reporting as part of the payroll process helps us to avoid issues and therefore reduce the number of on-demand checks needed.
- We're just starting to introduce the Insights Dashboards to leadership so they can track certain metrics (overtime, turnover, etc.) which will mean fewer manual reports that the team has to pull every pay period.
We use Paylocity for payroll processing and time tracking but are only just beginning to use the online PTO approval
system. It required a lot of work upfront to get the correct supervisor groups set up and assigned. Once we have gotten that off and running, we will begin to train/transition to using the scheduling system. I will say that the existing
training videos have been very helpful in training staff for implementation.

Although we once used Community more, that fell off when the Paylocity expert on our team exited suddenly since no knowledge was able to be transferred. We have been looking to use it more as we feel it can help to connect the employees more. We do not use surveys or premium videos at this time.
Workday is a much more advanced and built out product, in my opinion. However, it is also very expensive and can require an internal support team to administrate the system. It is not always best suited to smaller companies, and wouldn't make sense for our company at this time due to our size.
