Overall Satisfaction with Prezi

I use Prezi in all of my undergraduate courses. I find Prezi to be more engaging than a traditional PowerPoint and it helps organize the content of my lectures. Most presentations are linear and students today often just expect to be handed the slides. Prezi allows me to organize content spatially, in a way that appeals to many types of learners. My students also take notes - by hand! They follow along with the Prezi and remain interested throughout the class lecture and discussion. I teach marketing classes, so I use a ton of examples from YouTube, Vimeo, and other multimedia websites. Prezi has saved me so much time because I do not need to download and embed videos in PowerPoint or try to make sure they actually play -- I can just click the link and insert it, and I never have to leave the Prezi platform. My students consistently say the videos and examples I share in class are extremely valuable -- Prezi provides a platform to seamlessly and easily share multimedia content!
  • Excellent for integrating web-based media (e.g., videos, photos)!
  • Allows content to be organized in a logical, spatial way - rather than linearly.
  • Engages the viewers so they stay focused throughout the presentation.
  • User interface can be challenging at first.
  • Cannot rename hyperlinks, so they can appear clunky.
  • Internet is a must, if you do not have the paid version. Downfall of a web-based platform.
  • Can give the viewers motion sickness if it's not used well. Must have a keen eye for design!
  • More engaged students
  • Increased participation
  • Higher teaching evaluations
  • PowToon, PowerPoint and Keynote
It gives them a sense of how many smaller concepts fit together. My students are undoubtedly more engaged in our classroom lectures and discussions. Those students who are unfamiliar with Prezi are always a little leary on the first day of class. Some of them hold to traditional linear presentation software (e.g., PowerPoint, Keynote) as if it is an educational security blanket. But by the end of the first lecture, they go from being passive recipients of knowledge to engaged and insightful young scholars. Prezi is so convenient and easy to use.
To date, it does not feel as professional as some of the competitors. For instance, I use Prezi in my undergraduate classroom but not in my graduate classroom. That said, I have used it for research presentations at conferences and the audience always enjoys it. It's a nice change of pace from the status quo - but again, must be done well, with consideration for the viewers.
