How Procore Helps and Where It Can Improve - A Contractor's Honest Take
Overall Satisfaction with Procore
I’m with a contracting development corporation that focuses on plumbing, but we also accept other scopes of work. Procore is very helpful in our day-to-day site operations. The best part here is that it’s easy to use—even one of our older employees adjusted quickly. From document organization to reviewing plans, it was clear and simple. Even the Procore app is very user-friendly, and extremely helpful in our coordination with general contractors and other trades.
Pros
- All-in-one docs
- All your drawings, RFIs, submittals, etc. are in one place. It's easier to find and you can be sure everything is up to date, no confusion.
- Real-time updates
- Whether in the field or office, you can update immediately. For example, upload a daily log or pics to the site, the team will see it immediately. Action is faster.
- Tracking and tasks
- We can immediately see who has done the task, what is pending. It helps with the schedule and avoids blame.
Cons
- The app is a bit slow
- It lags sometimes especially with large files or when the signal is weak. I hope it will be smoother especially offline.
- Other tools are confusing
- There is overlap in features like Tasks and Punch List. It is confusing especially for new users.
- Lack of customization
- Forms and settings are not very flexible. I wish they could be adjusted per team needs.
- No Time = Multiple Projects
- Because we used Procore, we were able to reduce admin work by around 25%, especially in RFI tracking, daily logs, and document coordination. There used to be no time, now it’s faster. No need to add people, but we have more projects to handle. We heard about a 15% increase in our ACV in one year.
- More Visibility = No More Back and Forth
- Before we used Procore, there were a lot of mistakes because there was no clear communication in the office and field. Now, the updates are real-time, and we are sure the drawings are always updated. In turn, rework and change orders go down, so we save more time and materials, it’s not an unwanted expense.
- Some Friction for Smaller Jobs. The setup and processes can slow things down when speed is the priority. That means it doesn’t always give us strong ROI in those cases. But for larger or more complex projects, the value is very clear—it helps us scale confidently while staying organized and consistent.
We use the Procore and QuickBooks integration for accounting, and it really helps a lot. Instead of double encoding purchase orders, change orders, and invoices, it automatically syncs. It saves time and reduces errors, so people in the office can focus more on supporting projects. We also use the DocuSign integration for contracts and approvals. He signed documents quickly—especially with submittals and commitments.
To be honest, Procore helps a lot to attract good people and keep them from simply leaving. The younger generation, especially those who are more digitally accustomed, will appreciate that we use a modern system. They can see that we are not stuck in the old ways and that we want to get the job done. As for his longtime companions, they are relieved that their load is not so heavy. Less paperwork, less confusion, and clearer conversations in the office and field. They make their days easier. Show them that we will take care of them and give them the right things, and not just trade it.
We’ve used both—Procore and Autodesk Construction Cloud—and both have their respective strengths and weaknesses. If you're looking for design integration, especially if you're already using AutoCAD or Revit, Autodesk Construction Cloud is better. It’s seamless in the design-to-field process, and deep when it comes to BIM workflows. It is more suitable for projects that are heavily coordinated on the design side. But when it comes to field and project management tools, Procore is more. It’s more user-friendly, quicker to deploy to the team, and doesn’t require too much training to use. Even our long-term employees who are not so techy, caught up right away. Those RFIs, submittals, daily logs, and punch lists—clearer and faster to track. In fact, you'll feel the ROI faster with Procore because it's actually used more daily, both in the field and office. But in in-depth design coordination or BIM-heavy projects, Autodesk may be the better fit. It really depends on the needs of the company. We, as specialty contractors, worked better with Procore because it really focuses on the construction-side of the job, not just the design.
