Overall Satisfaction with Sage Intacct
We needed an accounting system that could handle the complicated rev rec associated with a SaaS and service based business. The current system was resulting in a lot of manual files that would need to be reconciled. Sage Intacct allowed us to bring a lot of that into one system, figuring out much of the revenue recognition for us through it's contract modules.
Pros
- Handles Revenue Recognition through it's contract modules very well.
- SaaS intelligence dashboarding is a great snap shot view of ARR and other SaaS metrics.
- Chart of accounts structure is very simple to use.
Cons
- Prepaids module is still a little clunky and feels like it's been made and hasn't been given much love recently.
- Better standard reporting on items such as unrecognized quantity based delivery. It's easy to lose track of what hasn't been recognized yet.
- Would love to see better ways to handle price increases on contracts. Rather than going in on a contract by contract basis, would love to be able to mass update.
- Has shortened our close process considerably as much more is kept inside of Sage Intacct reducing close from like 30 days to 10.
- Better view into our ARR.
- Better tracking of our costs using Sage Intacct's dimensions allowing us to better budget and track against budget.
The biggest area we've seen automation be helpful is around our revenue recognition. Sage Intacct's contract management solution makes renewing contracts super easy, allows price increases, makes tracking revenue and posting it very easy, and much more. Other areas we've found useful are the prepaids module allowing us to get out of spreadsheets.
We use multi-entity management. The multi-entity function makes keeping track of and reporting on multiple entities very easy. When posting things at the top level that cross multiple entities, the system will post the due to/due forms and make the needed entry down at each entity level as well.
Many systems are either underpowered for what you need (QBO and FreshBooks) or way to much for a mid-market enterprise such as netsuite or oracle. Sage Intacct fits nicely in the middle, providing what you need as you grow.
