Overall Satisfaction with Slack

Slack is a great communication tool to keep in touch with coworkers. We're a remote company (pre-covid) and switched from Skype to Slack about two years ago. I love being able to categorize messages by channel, and pinning documents to channels makes them easily accessible. Searching for messages is also very easy (i.e. you get what you're looking for). Slack makes communication within the company much clearer and easily accessible to everyone.
  • Company wide updates
  • Team communication
  • Search function is robust
  • I don't know if this is on Slack or my company's responsibility, but people don't always stick to threads which makes following a conversation more difficult. Maybe through AI Slack could offer a comment/reminder saying something like, "would you like this to be in a thread?" Y/N and then add it to a thread accordingly.
  • Teamwork, better communication
  • Element of fun (on non-work-related channels)
  • Efficiency due to better communication/document storage
The ability to organize conversations is invaluable. Skype wasn't robust for us as a company, although I find that Slack sometimes has connectivity issues with large video calls. Slack keeps us on track on a day-to-day basis as well as keeping yearly goals in mind (accountability).

Do you think Slack delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Slack's feature set?

Yes

Did Slack live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Slack go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Slack again?

Yes

Slack is useful in businesses that have 40+ employees. I think below that number email/groups could suffice. However, in order to have better communication within teams and individuals and general company-wide policies and updates, Slack is a fantastic way to stay in touch with coworkers, especially when the company has multiple locations or a remote, distributed workforce.

Using Slack

70 - Sales, Dev, Design, Marketing, SEO, Support all use Slack. Everyone in the company uses Slack to communicate with each other.
70 - I think with basic training anyone can use Slack. Like any other app, once the individual understands the rules and guidelines and which channel is used for what, and to use threads, and shortcuts, anyone can use the product. Basic typing and internet skills would be useful, along with being able to keep multiple conversations going at the same time.
  • Communication
  • Organization
  • Creativity and brainstorming
  • I like the way you can upload custom emojis to Slack and personalize the kind of response you give a comment. It's fun and makes communication fun as well.
  • We should be better able to stick to threads so that conversations stay organized.
  • We should expand the social uses of channels, right now they're fairly business-related.
Slack is integral to the organization of our company. Staying in touch with each other and openly communicating with coworkers would be much more difficult without Slack.
