Overall Satisfaction with Slack

Slack is used as the workspace of the company when it comes to any form of written communication with our internal AND external teams. As a game publisher we gather external team made of partners (localization, QA, porting) and dev team who works on game we publish, into our Slack to have a common space where to chat, share progress and info, daily. In addition to a few other software such as Miro, Jira/Trello, Airtable and Google Suite, we've added pluging that makes our interaction fluid and efficient.

Pros

  • Thread conversation
  • Share channels across different organization (other Slack workspace)
  • Reminder bot approachable to anyone
  • Organizing pinned document or URL into channel
  • Huddle (vocal call) is surprisingly stable
  • Recorded vocal to text

Cons

  • The new header bar on top of each channel is a bad (pinned URL and document are not visible per default anymore)
  • Huddle on iPad and mobile doesn't allow to view a shared screen during a chat and this is force us to use Google Meet or Discord half of the time we plan calls
  • 2FA security system is often messing up forcing many collaborator to redo their connection on the desktop or mobile app
  • Facilitating the communication between teams (Two times more efficient in tracking thread and info than any other workspace)
  • The most aflexible communication workspace mixing all forms of conversation: sync or async vocal, visual and text messages
  • Precise schedule post tools to plan things ahead (you don't need to be connected to post any message to your collaborator who starts their days when it's the night for you!)
Slack interface is approachable to newcomers and allow for easy onboarding either you are familiar with Teams, Discord or else, and very new to these communication tools.

The granularity of the tools offered by implementing plugin and external tools makes it a dream for most advanced users from different specialities (artist, coder, product manager, marketing, communication, etc.). Everyone always align on using Slack and there is no group that seems to prefer/dislike more or less this workspace.
The most convenient way to organize and follow thread (so any conversation) and a very large way to customize the workspace by individual (my workspace is organize in my way, but my colleague can have their own structure and organization). Also being able to add customized emoji and animated gif without any constraint has always been critical for team building and company/project identity (Teams just barely introduced the feature recently!!).

The numerous plugin and connection allowed by Slack through different external tools is also big and more preffered in a professional environment compared to Discord for instance.

Do you think Slack delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Slack's feature set?

Yes

Did Slack live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Slack go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Slack again?

Yes

Slack is probably the best workspace to organize professional communication into dedicated channels and synchronize conversations with both internal and external teams. It has the simplicity of a Discord with the organizational component of a Teams or Mattermost, but with a more modern UX. Slack is a must-have for any start-up, agency or video game studio who collaborate at small and medium-scale (tested with various organization from 10 to 140).
