Great for communication voice chat and basic task tracking.
Overall Satisfaction with Slack
We use Slack as a tool for communicating internally and with clients. We also use it for project checklists (using the Canvas feature) and short-term project-based documentation and lists. It's handy to have a channel dedicated to a specific client, and to keep short-term or collaborative project-related tasks in that dedicated Canvas.
Pros
- Chat
- Checklists
- Notifications
Cons
- Bluesky or Mastodon field under 'About me' in profile, as an alternative to Twitter.
- A personal canvas (fully just for the user), so team members can more easily manage their own to-do lists directly in Slack without the channel appearing in a public area.
- We don't have hard numbers, but we've used it for years, and it's been very effective as our primary communication tool.
- Huddles have simplified many meetings that would have otherwise been cumbersome video calls.
- Discord and Linear App
Slack's interface is very friendly in comparison to something like Discord, which feels very 'tech'. There's a place for both, of course. But in terms of a friendly, open feel, Slack does not feel as daunting as some of the competitors. For task management, while something like Linear has a more thorough issue-tracking setup, for tracking small day-to-day tasks, Slack totally suffices and is a lot less cumbersome to use and maintain.
