Overall Satisfaction with Splashtop
We have Splashtop deployed to all of the computers in our organization, both Macs, PCs and servers. We use splashtop to provide instant remote assistance to the users of these machines as well as unattended remote access for administrative tasks. This has allowed us to be able to provide the support we need without having to physically be at the machine that needs to be worked on. We can provide this assistance regardless of whether we are on-campus or off.
- Flexible security restrictions for administrative users
- Good organization of endpoints
- Reliable connections
- Good mutli-monitor support
- An easier to say invite URL for SOS sessions. "Splashtop" is hard for people to understand over the phone. Something like "supportnow .com" or "ithelp .com" or something easy to say.
- Maybe a UI refresh? Honestly not needed, but I can't think of any other areas for improvement.
- We saved about 25% compared to our previous remote access solution
- The software has been reliable which means we haven't had to spend almost any labor to keep it functioning well.
- The software has impacted our ability to provide instant support which has saved labor of having to physically go to where the machines are.
I'm pretty confident that most remote support solutions on the market have fully secure and encrypted connections. But one huge oversight that our previous software had was having good tools to make sure only the people we want to be able to login are the ones who can. The previous software made it was too easy for almost anyone to have remote access especially after a technician was terminated. Splashtop has great features that allow me to limit access based on groups or Active Directory logins which also means I can easily revoke access when needed. This is so important and is not lacking in Splashtop.
We were able to deploy Splashtop quickly and easily to all of our Windows-based endpoints through the MSI installer and group policies. I believe we chose a manual route for our Mac computers however the install was still quick and easy on those machines as well. We found the Splashtop documentation to be thorough and easy to follow.
Yes - TeamViewer. We replaced this product primarily for its lack of having good controls on unattended access. I even had multiple conversations with product managers at TeamViewer to discuss my concerns but they seemed to be blind to them or not understand. TeamViewer makes it very easy for unattended access passwords to get created and exist on individual computers without visibility to administrators. Furthurmore, the unattended password allows *anyone* with that password to gain access. Removing and revoking these passwords had to be done at each machine. There were not many good ways to fix these problems. This was a huge security concern for us and one that does not exist in Splashtop. It is possible that TeamViewer has fixed these problems since we switched 2 years ago, but we're happy with Splashtop now and find it to be a superior product.
