Overall Satisfaction with Splashtop

Our endpoint support staff used Splashtop in an ad-hoc deployment for troubleshooting and end user support. Splashtop was not our primary support tool but was used in specific remote cases. Splashtop allowed our staff to connect to remote workers in instances where our primary support tool would not work or could not be used.
  • Off-network connections
  • Low bandwidth connections
  • Simple UI
  • Security
  • Patch cycle managment
  • Insecure connection management
  • Chasing old installs proved a resource intensive quest
  • Security concerns with outdated clients
  • Time saved when everything was right was good.
Tickets lingered in the support queue. Our environment is complex and some solutions never work in it but inconsistency and long turn around time on seemingly simple support issues force our pursuit of alternative solutions. Our environment is atypical and should not be used as a litmus test for solutions however we found the support issues were more wide spread with other orgs voicing the same delays.
Splashtops secure remote access was tested for leaks and abuse while in our environment. During our ongoing testing we noticed that the older clients could be abused to make insecure connections if there were any misconfigurations in the solution setup. Due to this, we had a low tolerance for unpatched or outdated clients. This lead to aggressive patch cycles and VPN policies preventing connections by Splashtop if the client was more than 7 days out of patch cycle.
Splashtop onboarded quickly and we were able to be up and running for our use cases within days. Our primary delays were during our self-imposed testing and initial resource configs. Once up and running on the latest version and client we saw no onboarding issues. It wasn't until patching and client updates that we saw any issues.

Do you think Splashtop delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with Splashtop's feature set?

Yes

Did Splashtop live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Splashtop go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Splashtop again?

No

Splashtop is successful at its intended purpose and does well in low bandwidth connectivity. The solution is functional and provides the necessary tools to remotely administrate devices or provide user support. The UI is primarily intuitive and offers little in the way of complexity. Our chief struggle was keeping up to date with patches on our remote workforce and reliably patching the client when off-network.
