Splashtop: Reliable, Full featured, and Affordable
Overall Satisfaction with Splashtop
Splashtop is being used by the IT department to troubleshoot and maintain computers on campus. I specifically use Splashtop to remotely check and control every aspect of our radio station technology including remote transmitter sites. This allows me to make sure all is running well from home before we go live on the air early each morning, and it allows me to address technical issues that may occur during nights or weekends or when trying to take vacation.
Pros
- Well organized deployment and management of computers and users.
- Works on various OS platforms. We use Windows and Linux computers and access with iOS and Android.
- Choice of how to control the remote computer, depending on the access device
- I like the file transfer feature.
- Much more affordable than TeamViewer that I used to use.
Cons
- It doesn't seem clear why sometimes two on my team with our multi-user license, can't access the same computer remotely at the same time.
- When a link fails due to the internet connection, it doesn't always allow immediate reconnection. It takes time for the connection to time out so I can reconnect.
- I wish that I could hear the remote computer's audio with the Linux deployment like I can with Windows.
- Since we are a non-profit organization, I can't point to hard numbers other than travel time and interruptions that would happen without it.
- For the IT department, it greatly speeds up troubleshooting and has allowed us to use a remote IT person for some things.
I do not feel qualified to address the security features of Splashtop. I trust that they are staying on top of it. So far, I'm glad that I don't have to jump through too many hoops to get on or add a new remote computer.
It's been a long time but I don't remember that it took any time at all other than to learn how to work with their dashboard and deployment system. I have seen improvements made in those areas over the years.
Yes - TeamViewer. Too expensive and limited in connections. I tried other options, but Splashtop gives the simplicity and reliability at a price I feel we can afford.

Evaluating Splashtop and Competitors
- Scalability
- Integration with Other Systems
- Ease of Use
I needed an affordable and reliable remote solution that wouldn't require a lot of steps to get access when I had a remote urgent issue. Many of the options either were too limited, took special setup, or too expensive.
I would not change anything about my evaluation and choice. Since I have been satisfied with Splashtop, I have not researched any further.
