Overall Satisfaction with TeamViewer
I use TeamViewer at a small non-profit to remotely control various computers & servers not assigned to a specific person. For example: printer kiosks, digital signage displays, and IP camera servers. It puts the remote connections in one spot so that I can remotely assist users or perform manual maintenance/troubleshooting even when no one is there.
- Interface lists all managed computers in one spot
- Multiple simultaneous remote connections in tabs or different windows
- Interactive remote-control - allows sharing control with user physically present
- Easy setup - no port forwarding required, works with NAT
- Also has a free version for personal use at home
- Remote control on mobile app works really well
- Questionable reputation for security in the past
- Expensive for very small-scale use cases
- Convenience/employee comfort - saved many on-site trips by assisting users or performing maintenance via remote control
- Minimized effort of setting up instead of more complex solutions requiring network changes, VPNs, or port forwarding
- Saved the day several times when we had an outage, allowing a tech to log in and resolve issues within minutes
Compared to not having a remote control solution previously, we immediately saw benefits within a couple days after adoption. Time to resolve issues went down considerably, especially outside business hours, and IT was very happy their job was made easier.
TeamViewer is significantly easier to set up at a small scale than Microsoft RDP, plus it's cross-platform unlike RDP and provides a better UI and many more capabilities than just remote control, like file transfer and some management controls like reboot.
Do you think TeamViewer delivers good value for the price?
Not sure
Are you happy with TeamViewer's feature set?
Yes
Did TeamViewer live up to sales and marketing promises?
Yes
Did implementation of TeamViewer go as expected?
Yes
Would you buy TeamViewer again?
Yes
Implementation is very easy - even on the small scale a manual installation is quick to get the computer assigned to the account, and has a big benefit of working behind a NAT/firewall without port forwarding. The UI is pretty self explanatory so IT users required little to no training when getting started with remote control.
As a small organization our security requirements aren't very stringent, but I still appreciate the basics like two-factor authentication which makes me feel a lot more confident that our endpoints are protected against unauthorized control.
