Overall Satisfaction with TriNet

TriNet is used across our small nonprofit organization. It has allowed us to offer a great variety of and better benefits. It also allows us to consult with their experts regarding special or tricky HR situations.
  • Great payroll processor. We now can view earnings statements and W-2 forms online.
  • It manages our PTO tracking and reporting efficiently.
  • It handles the whole benefits open season very well.
  • More video-based training available online especially for new HR administrators.
  • I wish it managed 403(b) retirement plans (e.g. TIAA for nonprofits).
Overall, they've been helpful, in particular, Greg Owens, our Human Capital Consultant. But we did have some problems with our first couple of Client Services Associates being responsive and helpful. After a major problem with getting one of our departing employee's final paycheck correct, things have improved. We have had a lot of turnover of key staff over the past 2 years, which has meant re-learning most operations and HR functions. It would be helpful if TriNet had a training program (preferably in person, but at least online) for new HR/operations staff who need to master our TriNet and HR responsibilities.
Overall, HR Passport is easy to use. However, the transition from the old platform to the new took way, way too long, and there were so many problems with the beta website along the way. I would mention this to my TriNet reps, but I don't feel we got accurate and transparent communications that the new site would be "beta" for such a long time, and I never got a straight answer as to when it would be done.
  • Better benefits at the same or lower cost.
  • Professional guidance through tricky HR/personnel situations.
TriNet is the only PEO I've worked with. I have used other payroll processing services (Wells Fargo, ADP). It's hard for me to compare TriNet to anything else.
I've now worked for 2 small nonprofits (fewer than 20 staff) that use TriNet to handle payroll, benefits, and provide HR advice. In fact, I liked it so much with the first organization, I recommended it in my leadership role for my current org, and we implemented it 2 years ago. It makes so many aspects of HR administration easier and more efficient for small organizations and allows us to purchase much better benefits for the same cost to the organization.
