Overall Satisfaction with Zoom
We're a geographically widespread organization--our two main offices are about 350 km apart. We've used Zoom for all kinds of meetings from one-on-one conversations to webinars for our whole organization. We've had meetings running for whole days without issues. We use a wide range of client OSes from Windows to MacOS to Linux and FreeBSD. The FreeBSD port doesn't have sound support (yet). During the SARS‑CoV‑2 pandemic, Zoom has proven invaluable to us because most of our employees suddenly had to work from home only and because of travel restrictions.
- Almost complete multi-platform support
- Very easy to use
- Generally very good performance
- High stability
- Full support for FreeBSD and Solaris/OpenIndiana
- List of recent meetings available on the user's webpage on Zoom.us (especially good for recurring meetings)
- Slack-like functionality, so we can get rid of MS Teams
- XMPP (or similar open standard) support for chat
- Multi-platform support
- Stability
- Ease of use
- Easier to work from home = happier employees
- Meetings available everywhere = flexibility > increase in efficiency
- Skype for Business (formerly Lync) and Microsoft Teams
Skype is Windows only, so it's completely unusable for us. It's got poor audio and video quality too. Microsoft Teams, at least on Linux, is incredibly slow. I once timed it--it took 45 seconds from hitting enter in the browser location bar until the Teams channels were usable. Teams video meetings are unstable, laggy, and the sound is always bad. Zoom really shines here.
