ADP Workforce Now

Well-suited for companies with 10 or more employees. The more employees the more efficient ADP is for all aspects. Less appropriate for small companies where payroll and reporting is very manageable.

SAP Core HR and Payroll

SAP HR can be well suited for global companies with operations in multiple countries. The Payroll module needs to be limited to one instance per country, otherwise trying to maintain multiple countries on the same instance is too complicated.I would not recommend using SAP HR and Payroll for smaller companies because the total cost of ownership and the lack of flexibility will make it unfeasible. There are many cloud-based options now a days available that would fit better for this type of scenario.

Pros

  • The reporting in ADP is second to none. The ease of creating ad-hoc reports is far superior to any other system I have used. As an added bonus the canned reports that come standard with ADP, are usually more than enough for any company.
  • The customer service is amazing. Anytime I am experiencing issues I can call them up and expect an immediate resolution. They have an excellent ticketing system that allows them and myself to track communications and look up prior resolutions for future reference.
  • Tax Payments and Reporting are a life saver. I can always rest assured that my deposits are accurate and made on time. If I get any tax notices in the mail I can simply forward them to ADP and I do not have to worry about them again.

  • SAP HR is a mature system that provides robust support to global companies, with employees in multiple countries.
  • Because SAP HR is used by many global companies and has a large market share, developers and consultants are usually available.
  • Also, because SAP HR and Payroll have been used for long time, many vendors and providers will be familiar with the system and have pre-defined system interfaces to exchange information.

Cons

  • Managers would like a link to their Outlook calendar for all of their reports' vacation time. Currently, the employee will get a link to add to their personal Outlook just not the managers.
  • Would like to see real time changes when updating any of the configurations pages. It is a pain to have to log off and log back on to see how the changes look.

  • The SAP HR unser interface is not intuitive and requires significant training and experience to master. A web-based, simple and intuitive UI will mitigate this issue.
  • In general running reports and extracting information from SAP HR and Payroll is complex and time consuming. Since the reporting tools are limited and very basic, one ends up extracting raw data to be manipulated in standard tools like MS Excel.
  • The standard SAP HR and Payroll system integration tools are inefficient and ineffective; very often they fail to transfer small amounts of data requiring constant verification and rework of data transfers.

The screens are very easy to understand and employees can easily navigate the system which makes it easier on me since I am not always having to answer questions.

Support

ADP Workforce Now6.1

ADP has gone back to the designated "team support" module for clients on the newer versions of WFN, and the introduction of "The Bridge" has just added additional resources for problem resolution. It is a blog of current users who can share ideas/solutions in real time. And open case numbers are relatively east to track, and will allow the clients to view status of specific cases in the near future. We currently have no open items!

Online Training

The instructions from the recruiting agency on how to use the system was pretty straightforward. It provided step-by-step procedures on where you would need to log in your hours as well as what you would need to highlight (i.e. regular, overtime, etc.) detailing the type of hours that were worked overall. The handout also provided some pictures of the application

Implementation

ADP Workforce Now7.1

Either assign more than one specialist to the implementation process, or assign less clients to the implementation specialist. The process requires attention to detail and the ability to test and re-test as well as verify the information. It also requires a lot of back and forth between the client ant the implementation specialist, so they need to be readily available during the whole implementation process.

Alternatives Considered

Prior to our switch to ADP in 2009, we used Abra and had to manually enter timecards and record time. The flow in ADP Workforce Now is wonderful!
Karen Webb profile photo
We use SAP HR and Payroll because in our company it is the corporate mandate. However, based on our regional/business unit requirements and strategic plans other system would provide a better fit. However, just like in many large global corporations these type of decisions are made at the corporate level, many times giving priority to technology standardization instead of business priorities.

Return on Investment

  • As a payroll manager and senior analyst, a quicker payroll processing has freed up substantial time for me to further develop financial metrics and focus on growing our company's profitability.
  • Far fewer payroll errors leads to improved employee moral and less time fixing said errors.
Dixon Pettengill profile photo
  • SAP HR is suited for large companies with a sufficient budget. Small budgets will not be able to cover the expensive licensing, technical personnel and consultants required of an SAP installation.
  • In regards to the total cost of ownership, my ROI experience has been that by replacing SAP HR modules with cloud solutions we have been able to reduce the cost up to 60% while modernizing our systems and improving the employee experience.
  • I would encourage decision makers to look for cloud-based alternatives with a robust system integration, before believing that supporting every area of HR with a single SAP installation is a good long-term strategy. Having SAP HR as the core integrated to best-in-class cloud-based systems is a very valid and effective system strategy.
