Appian

Appian is very well suited for complex business processes. If implementing using traditional methods is daunting, then Appian would be a good alternative. It follows that simpler business processes would be a breeze. Also, it's well suited for situations where sharing data across processes/applications is likely. There's no need to "integrate" from Appian app to Appian app, so sharing data within the platform is trivial from a technical implementation perspective. Appian may not be as well suited for dealing with very large datasets (tens of thousands of records), it seems too much data may start taxing the system.

Workday HCM

Workday HCM requires constant and a lot of HRIS support and in the event that a company cannot afford to staff accordingly it may create a lot of frustration. The system allows for a lot of flexibility in customizing and automating processes; however, that also requires constant maintenance by an experienced technical team. Workday HCM is a great solution for companies that are looking to capitalize on employee and manager self-service, standardization of practices, compliance and automation.

  • Easy to modify the appreance of a form: you can do it with users.
  • Flexibility: you can really create a lot of different apps for different topics.
  • The speed in development in order to have the first functional mock-up as soon as possible.

  • The user experience is superior to all others. It is built like all the consumer tools out there, so employees are familiar with the icons and navigation
  • Finally a solution that really has reporting that is already built in. There is no need to buy a data warehouse or anything
  • Configuring really is simple. you dont need to hire technical people to learn how to configure business processes

  • Even if Appian is working a lot on it, it should improve the low-coding features.
  • Improvement of the form design not using sail.
  • Foster the connection for different customers, all of them using Appian. Having a process across companies and not only offices could be great.

It is work to make one system the source of truth for our data, but now that it is done, there is less work involved in staying on this path. This means for us that maintaining and/or implementing new modules like performance, finance, talent, etc. is simple. It's a no-brainer

Usability can refer to a number of different things. From a customer's perspective, using the product to set up their profile and complete the service requests is easy and straightforward.From a provider's perspective, we would like to have had a chance to try out the low code drag and drop capabilities to create our own business processes and forms, but relied instead on the Appian developers (who were awesome) to build our prototype. Maintaining users and cleaning up data in the prototype is very easy, which has made having a clean system to demonstrate to people has been very simple.

From my perspective, the system runs like a well oiled machine and I have not had any issues with customers complaining about speed. If a report is taking long to run, the report can run in the background and you can go about your business. For larger enterprises, there is additional space and machines to process the application in what Workday refers to it as Extended Configuration Tenant

In general, the Support team respond quickly and are knowledgeable and helpful. Account Management has been good and we have recently had an onsite visit from an Appian Architect and Account Manager to discuss Appian in the Cloud. Follow up from this meeting has been good with further information and pricing information received on a timely basis.

As analyst I participated in a developer boot camp. At times it was hard to keep up but most of the time it made sense. Trainer took the time to explain and slowed pace down to answer questions etc.

The instructors are knowledgeable, the ability to do hands-on exercise throughout are invaluable. The materials are useful reference after training is over. However, for basic functionality the system is pretty easy to pick up and there are plenty of free classes and tools so that only the system support and implementation team really need to take formal Workday training.

There are 11 different courses. They have on-demand training one hour sessions and host half day training sessions – e.g. report writing split across 2 half days, where you go into a classroom online instructor led. The online stuff is all provided by Workday.

It was implemented before my joining the company. At my last company, we used Workday professional services.

Based upon my experience at my last company, I would rate the implementation experience an 8/10. There are different ways to set things up and we had different people telling us different things. It set us back a couple of times.

Regarding configuration advice, we could set things up where every manager has supervisory organizations, or have it financially based i.e. aligned to cost center/department. We chose the individual manager path and I think we should have chosen a department route. Going down the individual manager path, to maintain the information, we have to inactivate a supervisory org whenever a manager changes/leaves.

Workday has released Financials and is continuing to develop it's Human Capital Management footprint with the addition of Workday Recruiting. I think customers will find that is easy to add on additional functionality in the system.Workday does make it easy for customers to make changes without relying on IT resources. The Business Process framework is a visual tool that allows functional resources to make changes and see the flow of the transaction

  • Workday allowed us to streamline annual processes like performance reviews, raises, and benefits election. It has simplified these processes for the employees and provided more actionable data for HR.
