Crunchbase

The data is outdated and has significant gaps. It is mostly a replication of what is easily and publicly available, with little value added. Their predatory subscription model includes no notice of renewal and they are very antagonistic towards their customers.

ZoomInfo

The software is great for searches of individuals or companies. It is great to narrow down a lead [or] find the key players within certain departments. Also to make sure an email address is valid. The email integration ZoomInfo's "Engage" has is an amazing tool to make sure an email was received and opened.I don't see myself using Engage's call tool much. To me it isn't a particularly useful tool and one appropriate for my own particular situation based on how I engage with my prospects.

Pros

Crunchbase

  • Crunchbase has an easy-to-navigate user interface. The bar at the top of the screen that shows the different data points available on companies is particularly helpful for quick navigating.
  • The ability to make and import lists and save searches is helpful for customizing the software to your particular needs.
  • The web and mobile app data that Crunchbase offers is very helpful to gauge trends and interest in companies for diligence purposes.

ZoomInfo

  • FormComplete is an incredible tool and has a better match rate compared to other tools I've used in the past.
  • The advanced search is also a powerhouse when it comes to finding companies using specific technologies and more.
  • Being able to upload a list and see that in you advanced search, whether it's a contact or company list is also a huge help.

Cons

Crunchbase

  • Notifications - Something similar to TweetDeck would be nice, so that when news breaks it could be an immediate fact.
  • Honestly dont add too much because you don't want it to become more of a social tool with cluttered info, keep it straight to the point.

ZoomInfo

  • Expanded search options for specific industries (intellectual property, brand protection specifically)
  • AE responsiveness with requests for updated pricing/increased functionality on time crunch. Potentially increased ability for AEs to offer on the spot discounts to avoid lag
  • No ability to set an account admin with zero credit allotment. We need an admin that doesn't require a paid seat as they do not perform many of the required functions, simply maintain the system setup and integrations.

With the combined resources of crowdsorced info on both data.com as well as the immediacy of info on LinkedIn, as well as intel on Hoovers, information provided on ZoomInfo is more readily available if you have the time to invest in looking for it. However, at the pace we do business, having a "one stop shop" for information is very convenient. On efficiency alone, ZoomInfo is worth the price of subscription considering our business model.

Overall, ZoomInfo scores a 9! It is simple to use, the ROI is positive for my organization. This is a tool I can have new users dive right into without a lot of time spent on tutorials, even for thise with little to no experience with this type of tool

Alternatives Considered

Crunchbase

Crunchbase is the best resource for prospecting startups hands down. TechTarget has a lot of useful info, but I found it to be inaccurate where it mattered most. Crunchbase's data seems more accurate, and is also easier to use. Not the most exact comparison, but they offer similar background information.

We have a subscription to Sales Intel and definitely like having access to both tools. Sales Intel does a great job with mobile phone numbers and indicating if records are human verified or machine verified. Both tools compliment each other very well. We selected zoom because of the DiscoverOrg merger.

Return on Investment

Crunchbase

  • The best use we get out of Crunchbase Pro is staying on top of funding, mergers, and acquisitions. This has really helped us to identify key target accounts for our ABM strategy.

ZoomInfo

  • We've seen faster lead conversion or greater website visitors because it allows us to do more granular targeting
  • Our Sales employees are relieved to have a tool that allows them to do prospecting that does not involve a Google Search or Cold Call
  • It gives us insider information against our competitors to ensure we are the forerunner in our industry.
