I have found Google Tag Manager as the go to solution for managing all of your event and conversion tags for your website. Not only does it make it easy to manage all of your tags in the one place, it is fairly intuitive to use and there is plenty of videos and help documentation online to help set up what ever you need. No scenarios come to mind at the moment on where it is less appropriate to use.

After starting your online business, you have to use SEO PowerSuite to start up. You want to know where you have to go in terms of SEO journey, what keywords you need to use, who your competition is and which locations are the most important to you. Also, you need to know the power of your website, how well it performs now and how it can be improved. If you just want to start blogging for fun, about stuff that interests you and only you, you might find this program a bit over the top. It has way too many features to "just" see how many visitors you get on your website. A simple plugin will probably do the job.
Selecting elements on a site [object, class, cookie, etc] (to later fire an event, send some data, etc) is very easy with triggers. Want to add an event when someone clicks on a button? Super easy. It was many many DOM selectors and you can even add custom functions if you need to do something more specific
In general, firing events in different circumstances is very easy mixing triggers and tags. You can track almost any element of the DOM and do whatever you want with it.
Testing is a great functionality. Only you can see what's on the site and you can debug it easily by seeing which events or tags were triggered and all the DOM elements involved (and why they matched the trigger).
Working in environments (staging, production) and versioning is easy to do, deploying changes in 2 clicks.

There are several good integrations, but there can always be more. Native tracking for call tracking solutions, analytics providers, non-Google advertisers would be top of my list.
Documentation is just dreadful. Luckily there are some awesome folks out there doing crowdsourced tutorials (shout out to Simo Ahava) but by and large the Google Tag Manager instructions are worth what you pay for them.

The software is not strong with processing large amounts of data. So, it is really good for small and medium size businesses, but can be cumbersome for large projects.
Due to large number of settings it takes time to learn it.
Need to purchase proxies or captcha solution. I think those can be provides as part of the package already.
I haven't found another option for us to use especially one that is free. Down the road we may go a different route but for now GTM is a good option and does what we need it to do. It'd be nice to get more support or more integrations but with the free version there's only so much one can expect to get I suppose.

I gave SEO PowerSuite a two because our company did not renew our subscription. The pricing was too complicated and having multiple platforms made it more difficult to use. We dropped our subscription to SEO PowerSuite and implemented Moz. Moz gave us a full view of all of the metrics we were looking for on one web-based platform. Plus, the pricing model was simple so it was easier to get senior management to cosign on.
No difficult obstacle to overcome but Google Tag Manager can still be difficult for many users to deploy. Sure the basic HTML script can be deployed quite easily, but when you start to require triggers, variables, etc, it can be a little daunting.

Overall, the documentation makes SEO PowerSuite easy to use; however, if someone was just starting off, it will take a bit of a higher learning curve as there are a lot of tools to work with. Starting off can be overwhelming, but once you get the hang of it, it's fairly intuitive

GTM does not provide support. This is one of GTM's biggest issues but it's due to the level of customization for each website. If your team thinks they would heavily rely on the need for a support staff it is probably better to invest in a paid service with a team that can support your needs.

I have had several interactions with support at SEO PowerSuite. Each time I have been quite pleased with the response. I have interacted with billing and tools support and have found them to both be on top of things. they follow up well and they get the issue resolved in a timely manner. I have no complaints here.

SEO Powersuite has a lot of training videos online, combined with some live streaming tutorials. Also, they have a guide that comes with their software to outline the basics of your SEO workflow. This will get you on the right track right from the start. Their guides and tutorials are easy to follow and detail every possible option you have when doing work with SEO Powersuite. Even if you want to switch to different software, the courses are easy to implement in all other tools too! Very recommended if you want to get started in the SEO world, or want to expand your knowledge.
Planning and communication will help greatly with an in-house implementation. If there are large teams, try to limit the number of people involved to 1-2 developers (back-end dev may be necessary depending on your platform), one analytics marketer and one project manager.

We moved to GTM from a standard Google Analytics implementation. GTM is much more flexible and easier to make changes, especially as the changes relate to multiple sites and environments. While there is a learning curve when figuring out how to use GTM, I believe the change has been worth it because it helps us understand at a more fundamental level how our tracking works and gives us a lot more control over what we track and how.

It works in combination with all of them, the closest would be a combination of Ahrefs, Majestic, and Screaming Frog. However, where this tool steps up its game, is when you integrate it with Google Search Console and then tie them both into Google Data Studio. When you get this right, you can show your client how much money they would need to spend on PPC to get the same 'value' of traffic. This changes the way they look at optimization, now the cost of a term in PPC is also used as a reason to optimize the customer journey.
GTM is very useful to determine if a particular element on the site is useful (i.e. is it being watched, is it being clicked, does it help customers navigate through more pages). As an SEO person, I can use this information to decide what to optimize for but also to track progress and see improvements in engagement.
With the use of Google Tag Manager, I was able to easily inject an A/B testing tool which lead to several improvements in lead generation.

SEO PowerSuite is a one-time payment SEO software which shortens the time it takes for you to optimize websites in terms of SEO, content, visibility and conversions which can improve your ROI if used wisely.
Can be used on multiple platforms and scales nicely. An Enterprise license allows multiple people to run the software, and it's easy to set up. It's updated regularly which means zero maintenance.
BuzzBundle and LinkAssistant can increase your brands reach, potentially increasing the number of prospects and leads.
