HubSpot CRM is perfect for sales/marketing teams that require a simple CRM tool with few advanced features. This is all included in affordable plans that range from free to $50 a month. The more advanced features that larger companies may need to use are not included in these plans. HubSpot provides awesome comprehensive features in some of their more expensive plans, which might be suitable for later-stage companies, not startups.

If you have multiple offers, or points of entry where you generate leads, I like ONTRAPORT a lot. You can build out centralized campaigns which make it very easy to manage your messaging and monitor performance. They're also good for multiple users, as each user can customize the interface to suit. I don't really like ONTRAPORT for a CRM though.

Pros

  • Hubspot CRM is fantastically easy to navigate and use. Having used three other big-name CRM systems, I would say Hubspot has been by far the easiest to set up and use on a regular basis. The list and contact profile views are beautifully designed and intuitive to manipulate as needed.
  • Hubspot CRM's Lists functionality is so convenient for segmenting your master contact list in all sorts of ways. I use it anytime I need to find out how many or who from our list fits a narrow set of criteria. Even in past jobs where we had other database tools that we could use, Hubspot was the fastest and easiest to get that information.
  • Hubspot makes it easy to import your contact lists from other tools and sources. The migration tool is intuitive and works reliably. I was able to onboard a list of about 500 contacts in less than 10 minutes, including the time it took to diagnose compatibility errors on the first import.

  • Campaign builder. The visual campaign builder is very easy to use and feels pretty modern.
  • CRM: customizing what type of data I'd like WHERE has been great. Custom fields, being able to move them around.
  • Task Management: one of the things that set ONTRAPORT apart from other similar automation platforms is the tasks. You can trigger automated tasks that cause your salespeople to take action, and the tasks stay in the queue until the salesperson takes that action and checks it off. This is great for putting together a web of accountability.

  • Integrations are typically a strength of the Hubspot platform, but they still have a long way to go in the e-commerce category. Unless you're using one of the most popular e-commerce platforms like Shopify, BigCommerce, or Magento, you're going to have a lot of custom dev work on your hands. Would love to see more integrations in this area in order to add e-commerce sales revenue data to other offline purchases that get logged by sales reps.

  • Ontraport is a very powerful and robust system capable of a great many things. The time it takes to get to know the program is a little intimidating. Don't get me wrong, you can get started right away, but a year in I know I am still not making the most of all Ontraport can do. I am UK based so access to their advanced trainings means international travel, maybe some online events could be initiated.

The software is just easy to use. The UI is fairly intuitive. The help system is pretty good. I find it is pretty quick to get my work completed and if I don't document my things well, I can always figure out how I did something when I need to make changes.When I have a problem the tech support is easy to deal with and when things need to get escalated they are resolved quickly.

They'd explain the solution so we could learn how and why. If something we were trying to do wasn't possible, they also explained how and why.

Hubspot CRM is designed to fit within their ecosystem of marketing, sales, and support tools, so it's a little different beast than the other tools I've used. Base CRM is a powerful tool, but it's more of a stand-alone sales CRM platform with tools designed exclusively around a sales workflow. Don't expect it to be wonderful if you try to integrate it with 3rd party marketing automation solutions or the like. ActiveCampaign's CRM is pretty lightweight, as their priority is the marketing automation tools and email marketing.

Infusionsoft - I chose ONTRAPORT over Infusionsoft because I could make it match up to my clients processes easier. I value the flexibility. On the flip side, Infusionsoft has some eCommerce integration and pre-configured solutions that are appealing.VTrenz, Marketo, Silverpop were all on the list back in 2008 when I looked at them but they were overboard on roles and structure not to mention unaffordable for small and midsize clients.

  • Increased prospecting power is a definite plus. The tools it puts in your reps hands will help them propspect more efficiently and powerfully, e.g. Sidekick and HubSpot company database.
  • Better deal tracking and reporting.
