Sage 300 was a very old-looking system that was installed on your PC. Sage Intacct out beats this Sage 300 in several ways. Ease of use and a new look are provided on a cloud-based system. Sage Intacct is easy to navigate and learn, whereas Sage 300 is old and outdated.
Chose Sage Intacct
Intacct is significantly easier to use and more modern than Sage 300, and has a much higher "ceiling" than QuickBooks; you can just do a lot more things, and the system doesn't have the same training wheels that QuickBooks has at times. Being cloud-based and able to upload …

Sage Intacct is completely different than any of the other Sage programs that I have used over the past twenty years. The configuration is different and every other aspect is different. It's a program designed for a more complicated business with a lot of moving parts. It deals …
Chose Sage Intacct
Sage Intacct is miles ahead of the above systems we have used. We chose Sage Intacct for its all-in-one integration with accounting and reporting (no need to sync data with another reporting tool), as well as its ability to report on a multi-location basis. We did consider …

Chose Sage Intacct
We had worked with Sage 300 version 2016. It had not been upgraded. We found Sage Intacct to be easier and it was easier transitioning from Sage 300 to Intacct.
Chose Sage Intacct
It allows multi-users permission setting throughout the organization. Sage Intacct is also cloud based so it is more accessible and streamlined. It is also more helpful in report generating and customization. On top of that, Sage Intacct relied less on the configuration of the …

Chose Sage Intacct
We quickly eliminated all ERP offerings that required care and feeding of a dedicated server, strongly opting for a multi-tenant hosted SaaS solution. We intentionally wanted to eliminate our IT department from needing to support our Finance and Accounting team, and Sage …

Sage Intacct is superior than these systems. We reviewed them during RFP process and picked Sage Intaccts for its ease of use, cloud platform capabilities and ability to customize.

It depends on the scale and nature of the organisation, but for a business like ours, i.e. a medium sized business with several entities operating in more than one location with different currencies, I think it is a very good fit. It is relatively easy to get to grips with and provides a good level of functionality.

Sage 300cloud is a great option when it comes to cloud accounting/tracking software. In comparison to Sage's other products, Sage 300cloud is the only cloud/web based option with modern UI's and more intuitive interfaces. Additionally, Sage 300cloud offers an entire system of customer integrations that become available dependent on subscription level. Sage 300cloud also offers integrations between other Sage products (AP, CRM, etc) that allows for better automation and efficiency

Pros
Sage
  • Excellent roll-up reporting of various categories of expenses across multiple depts. Data is not siloed when we want to find all revenue sources across business entities, for example, or even down to details such as what is spent on "discretionary" expense elements.
  • Coding nomenclature is flexible and makes sense across business areas. Again, this allows for both more effective capture of data and with reporting slices and iterations.
  • Sage Intacct's open architecture (availability of APIs and already existing hooks) has made integration with other system tool-sets easier than we would ever have thought.

  • Overall ease of use and intuitive navigation - minimal training has been required to use the system efficiently and effectively
  • Customer Inquiry - quickly see outstanding documents and drill down on any item (open or paid) to find the information you need
  • Most reports are easy to export into a workable Excel format using the Excel - data only or csv file format.

Cons
Sage
  • The budgeting module is archaic. It needs to have more application features, including tracking changes made throughout the year.
  • The creation of reports is complicated and lacks sufficient filtering options during the process.
  • The Purchasing module should be more flexible, allowing users to add change orders to an existing PO rather than creating a new one.

  • Little things, like changing the company name - are more difficult than we would like (We used to be MSDSSAB but legally shortened it to MSDSB).
  • A management financial reporting tool with live access - to premade reports - without paying an arm and a leg would be appreciated.
  • More training opportunities in local areas - or nearby - would be appreciated...

It is a solid stable product with a large user community and large ISV community. Support and Training are easy to access and obtain and there is larger reseller channel to ensure the firm you work with is honest. It is scalable and there are multiple deployment and payment options.

Usability
Sage
The ease of use as a seasoned user is wonderful; however, new users struggle to adapt to the program efficiently. Better training videos--all in one location--would be beneficial. The use of a "sandbox" environment is a great tool for new employees or for the fiscal department to test certain journal entries or other transactions to verify accuracy of data.

Sage 300cloud is intuitive and user friendly after some training. It does require implementation and training but once that's done, this software is easy to use and navigate. Support for Sage 300cloud is spot on and offers assistance over the simplest to [the] most complex of tasks. Finding information or learning new tasks within Sage 300cloud is relatively easy and educational.

Performance
Sage
As fas as integration is concerned I don't feel this slows Sage Intacct down at all. However, sometimes I do feel it takes some larger reports more time to load due to all the detail. As well as, I "move very fast" in my motions so sometimes I double click on fuctions too quickly and the system seems to think that I have a duplicate request.

Only a few times have we had to reach out to support, and every time we did, we received a relatively quick response and a solution was found fairly quickly. Only once was there an issue that took longer than a week to resolve, but it still did eventually get solved.

Turnover is high in the Sage Support department so sometimes it is difficult to get a rep who knows the issue well. Reps are good and getting assistance when they need it. Sometimes support is more interested in closing issue than actually solving problem. It can be difficult at times to have issues escalated but overall the support is good.

I have taken in person training classes at several of the annual Sage Intacct user conferences. It is very interactive and the trainers are very easy to follow and understand. They are great at getting everyone in the class involved. They also make sure everyone has learned to task before moving to a new one.

The free training is very minimal. For what we pay for the service, I would like more training. We end up training new users in-house because the provided free training is not nearly comprehensive enough. That being said, the training provided, for the material covered, was adequate and relevant for the given topics.

I would not use a thrid party administrator to implement your system, especially if you are going to be modifying the system at all. Use Intacct implementors as they will be able to better support you on any issues that come up after you go live.

Alternatives Considered
Sage
We evaluated Sage Intacct alongside many other options, but Blackbaud and NetSuite were the frontrunners. They all were cloud-based and capable systems, but for our team, Sage Intacct was the clearer choice for a few reasons.
First, usability. Our team has varying levels of accounting experience, and Sage felt more intuitive across those different levels. The others could be powerful, but it also felt like it required more technical depth to navigate day-to-day, which was a concern for a small team. Second, functionality out of the box. Sage Intacct had more of what we needed built in without requiring a significant number of add-ons, which kept the solution simpler and the pricing more predictable.
Third, nonprofit fit. Sage Intacct is purpose-built for organizations like ours, and that showed in the functionality available and the system's overall design. And finally, our implementation partner, RSM, was well-versed in Sage Intacct and gave us confidence that we would have the right support behind us. That partnership was part of the overall value of choosing Sage.

Return on Investment
Sage
  • Positive - It runs better than our old software when we all work together, rather than having to sign off on each other and deal with syncing issues.
  • Negative - It's not as easy to go back to fix an amount, a date, etc. Sometimes, a very small mistake needs to be corrected by voiding and redoing the entire transaction.
  • We can successfully sync other software we use with Intacct! It reduces workload when things are automated.
