Overall Satisfaction with Sage Intacct

Intacct is currently being used by our Accounting dept. only. We switched from Quickbooks so the functionality and reporting has been leaps and bounds above what we able to do previously. We utilize Intacct to track expenses by project, department, billable, etc.
  • Reporting - We are able to build custom reports that drive decisions from above.
  • Project driven expenses - We are able to see the spend on a project basis and break it down by department to further determine the extent of each department's impact on each project.
  • Separation of entities - We have three entities that roll up into one for reporting. We are able to review expenses for each specific entity and track them separately.
  • Search function - It is incredibly difficult to use the search function within Intacct. It very rarely works and nothing like the search functionality we had within QB.
  • Help Desk - It is incredibly difficult to get issues addressed in a timely manner. Submitting a case, waiting for it to be assigned before we are able to follow up on it. It would be incredibly helpful if Support was easier to get a hold of (over the phone or through a chat function within Intacct would be amazing).
  • We were able to decrease our monthly close from more than 15 days down to 4.
  • We have been able to provide more detailed reports to our board.
As noted before, due to the amount of automation we have been able to decrease our tedious, manual month end process from 15 plus days down to 4. This has allowed the Accounting team to better support the overall business and provide real time data when requested by other departments.
Being able to track expenses by project has led to fewer overages, which in turn means happy customers. We are able to provide project managers with real time reports showing where the project is at from an expense perspective. Additionally, we have been able to track the project expenses within each separate entity (we have 3) and additionally break the expenses down by department.
Our developer did not do a very good job of training my team on the system and the lack of resources available by Intacct is frustrating. I don't put this all on Sage Intacct though as a lot of the initial issue was related to our Software Integrator's inability to properly train us on the system but the lack of training resources by Intacct can be frustrating at times.
The functionality of Intacct and reporting capabilities is above all other software systems I have used.
Reporting is leaps and bounds above Quickbooks. Additionally, having the segregation of duties and being able to define what each user is able to access is incredibly helpful.

Using Sage Intacct

6 - AP, AR, Payroll, Accounting
6 - You need to have knowledge of the system, G/L account methodology, dimensions, department, account, etc.
  • Statistical accounts - track visits and enrollment counts
  • Customized reporting - built our own reports
  • Dashboards - track important features right away when I log in
  • Connect to Tableau
  • Connect to Salesforce
  • Connect to ADP
Really like the cloud based system. My only qualm is related to the manual-ness of the AR process and sales orders, etc.

Evaluating Sage Intacct and Competitors

Yes - We use to use Quickbooks. We were looking for a more robust system with the ability to integrate with our other systems. Additional, we needed internal control features for audit purposes that Quickbooks was unable to provide.
  • Price
  • Product Features
  • Product Usability
THe most important factor for us was the ability to connect with our other systems (Adaptive, ADP, Concur, Salesforce, Tableau, etc.) as we are in the process of automating as much of these functions as possible to help our organization scale, quickly.
Wouldn't change the process.

Sage Intacct Implementation

I would not use a thrid party administrator to implement your system, especially if you are going to be modifying the system at all. Use Intacct implementors as they will be able to better support you on any issues that come up after you go live.
  • Third-party professional services
Armanino
Change management was a big part of the implementation and was well-handled
  • department structure
  • projects
  • accounts receivable module

Sage Intacct Training

  • Online training
  • Self-taught
It was great for generic training but we had the system modified by our third party implementer and a lot of that was not covered in various training's that we received or took online. Attended Advantage last year and that as super helpful in learning a lot of the intricacies of the system.
I would not recommend learning the system solely on your own. Utilize training's and speak to your customer rep regularly.

Configuring Sage Intacct

There are a lot of configurations you can do with Intacct. However, the more one-off's you do, the more difficult it is for support to adequately provide feedback and troubleshoot on their end. Especially with this configuration is done by a third party implementer. I would recommend using Sage to implement the system for you.
Take your time and test, test, and test some more. Try to break the system before you go life, the more testing you do before go-live the better.
No - we have not done any customization to the interface
Use Sage to implment your system. Thrid party administrators for this only support for a short amount of time unless you pay the TPA annual fees to support. Otherwise, you are left with Sage to troubleshoot any issues and there have been issues with support able to troubleshoot changes that have been done by a TPA.

Sage Intacct Support

As a user of the system, we should have access to quality support. A support system that actually reads your requests for help and responds accordingly. We have had multiple issues where we have provided the necessary information and screen shots in our initial request only to have support email us asking for the information that has already been provided. It seems that support is a. looking to stall because they are overwhelmed or b. support isn't reading the actual request for help. Neither of which are adequate responses. My biggest issue with Intacct is it's lack of adequate support to help resolve issues. It would be incredibly helpful if we could speak to a support person at the very beginning to explain the issue and start working together towards a resolution.
ProsCons
None
Slow Resolution
Poor followup
Less knowledgeable
Problems left unsolved
Escalation required
Difficult to get immediate help
Need to explain problems multiple times
Slow Initial Response

So far, we have not had a good experience with support. When I have spoken with Engineers or developers that I have met at conferences, I tend to get a much better result in fixing an issue than going through support.

Relationship with Sage

Super helpful during the sales phase.
Vendor has been hlepful when questions have come up, especially our customer rep.
Unsure, done before I started with the company.
Utilize your direct customer support rep as they can usually find the answer for you a lot timelier than other avenues.

Using Sage Intacct

It takes some time to get adjusted with the system and know your way around. Overall, this is a great system that allows multiple systems to adequately integrate in order to automate a lot of information that comes from external sources.
ProsCons
Like to use
Relatively simple
Easy to use
Technical support not required
Well integrated
Consistent
Convenient
Feel confident using
Slow to learn
Lots to learn
  • Payment approval
  • Journal entry review
  • reports
  • Correcting an over-payment on an invoice
  • Ensuring that items that are billable are properly coded as such

Sage Intacct Reliability

You can do a lot with this system and integrate it with a lot of your additional systems you use daily.
Very few issues that have resulted in Intacct not being available.
I have not noticed any slowdown in using Intacct with having multiple systems integrated with it )ADP, Concur, Adaptive Insights).

Integrating Sage Intacct

  • Salesforce
  • Tableau
Yes this integration is supported
  • File import/export
  • API (e.g. SOAP or REST)
Nope
Utilize the Sage integration team to integrate any additional systems.

Upgrading Sage Intacct

Yes - Intacct pushes through updates four times a year. We recently upgraded to R2 and have not noticed any issues.
  • Marking journal entries as billable
  • Better report writing functionality without having to pay additional fees
