The Lifesize Cloud Platform, combined with the connected Icon Room Systems, provides any business with a reliable, stable, and unrivaled quality video communications solution. I would have no hesitation in recommending this solution to any business, large or small—it just works every time!With the added ability to simply book a meeting directly from Outlook or the browser, invite your room system and be faced with a simple yes or no on the screen of the room system, this is by far the simplest video conferencing solution that I have ever used.

Whereby

Whereby is great for small teams of a dozen or fewer employees, especially remote teams. In a larger corporate environment, it's probably less useful. However, even for enterprise users, it might be very helpful for departments where employees are spread out over multiple locations or that utilize a lot of freelancers or remote workers.

  • Encrypted Communications: Competing against other newspapers and stations is tough. Lifesize Video Conferencing helps us keep our content original and encrypted.
  • Multiple Screen Sharing: Before, our preferred method of contact was a text message or a FaceTime call. This program allows us to share the same video chat with multiple sources. We've streamed interviews across 4 different games and given live in-game updates - that's something our competitors can never touch us with.
  • Sharable Content: Our meetings and interviews can be recorded and shared amongst our other team members or with the public through social media.

  • Easy to use: The app is very, very easy to use. Literally just create a chat room (input a name) and access it to chat.
  • Call/video quality: I've experienced better call quality on appear.in than in almost all other chat and video conferencing services out there.

Cons

Lifesize Video Conferencing

  • I dislike that they are no longer making the Team/Room 220's. I am not a fan of the Icon editions that are replacing the Team/Room 220's for my classrooms and conference rooms. I do not like, when I remote into the codecs, that the layout is very limited compared to the Team/Room 220's. I can no longer see if someone is in the room or able to access the remote control or adjust the cameras. Because we are not using the "Cloud" with our codecs, users are no longer able to access a directory. The remote control looks almost like the Apple TV remote, which has very few buttons with no labels on it. My users, who are not very tech savvy, would rather not use the equipment unless some else sets it up for them.
  • Software for computers could be more robust. One thing I would like to see is a way to click on one of the video streams to just see it large and be able to toggle which screen I want to see myself, instead of the software deciding which one should be the focus point based on who is talking.

  • The paid version may have dial-in. But I have always used the free version. Dial-in is typically required for an "official" multi-purpose teleconference platform.
  • I did have some trouble with larger groups (5+) when it was Appear.in but almost always use it for small 1-on-1 or 3 person meetings.

Other than the HIPAA compliance, we have no compelling reason to retain LifeSize when we can already pay for similar services included with our UCaaS service. Our UCaaS vendor, Fuze, includes video conferencing with the VoIP services via single, integrated client software package. Additional limitations include minimal implementation assistance, training service, training materials and assistance driving internal adoption. Issues with slow speed for desktop sharing and audio quality make the technical aspects of Lifesize inferior to competitors.

We are using a larger tool suite that already includes video conferencing instead of our older approach of using different apps from different vendors.appear.in has a simple but great set of features but its pricing scheme is not as scalable as we really need in a 500+ employee company.

We rolled out Lifesize with minimal instructions and high adoption. The touchpad on the Phone 2 is solid from a usability perspective. The touchpad on the Phone 2 allows us to remove remotes. The whole Icon experience is so much better than the color multi-function buttons on the room units (which were confusing to people). Thankfully the room units also work well with the Phone 2.

Since we are an educational institution we not only have scheduled classes which must be available, but we have staff members in a variety of areas ranging from recruiting and admissions to advancement and the President's office who need to connect with students, alumni and other interest groups, often at odd hours. I have not, since using Lifesize had anyone complain of not being able to connect

Lifesize is an amazing platform for VC. However, it is a costly solution for any scaling startup. However, implementation and user acceptability was fairly easy and worth the additional spend. Quality has always been on point and support has always taken care of us. Our account manager also ensured a seamless transition process for Google Hangouts. Will go with this solution again at any other organization.

Most of the front-line call takers are only as knowledgeable enough to tell you to reboot or reset. If your issue is more complicated than that, it will need to be escalated. On the other hand - most of our problems have been on our network side. The techs are ALWAYS super nice and try to be as helpful as possible. They do care about fixing the problem.

Never had to contact support, so we cannot give a rating for their overall support. When we noticed the audio was not always great quality, we simply educated our users to mute the mic and use the in-room conference phone which is connected via a dedicated VOIP link and had much better voice quality. The video performance varied by locations network speed and found it got much worse when the room size increased to over 4 connections.

There was a very knowledgeable person each and every time I trained with them. I believe after 30-45 minutes of admin training, I had all that I needed. End user training is a breeze for our staff. In a matter of 15 minutes, we can train internally. It is that easy to use!

Lifesize provides a great high-quality professional video conferencing solutions that, with accompanying software like Lifesize Cloud or Zoom, can connect to a multitude of different devices anywhere in the world. While Polycom certainly has more brand recognition in the industry for its communication platforms, I think Lifesize is a comparable product that works just as well as Polycom.

You're able to create unique links for people to join and use words and phrases in the link for the invite. I think that helps you with branding yourself as a company. On Google Hangouts we're not able to do something like this, which is why I appreciate Whereby and being able to connect in that way.

The system handles large numbers of connections pretty well, although there's little control over how participants are displayed on screen. One of its greatest strengths is adding large number of both video and audio connections simultaneously.

  • We have five locations across Oregon, Washington, and Alaska, with key stakeholders and cross-location teams that work together every regardless of physical location. This resource is critical in keeping our teams connected.
  • Has improved collaboration and communication by having as close to face to face meetings as possible with remote team members. Conference rooms were often times double booked because of LifeSize, which as a determining factor in us moving to a cloud subscription.
