Considered Both Products
Nextcloud
Chose Nextcloud
Nextcloud is actually a fork of ownCloud. We chose Nextcloud because of its much faster development.
Chose Nextcloud
Nextcloud was the only solution that would authenticate with Microsoft 365 while also running on all of their machines, handle absurdly high file number counts, and the occasional large file. We couldn't find other platforms that would do that at all, or that would say they …
Chose Nextcloud
PIM and file sharing are the same as you get in Google's Drive/Calendar. With extensions, you can also implement web meetings (e.g., by using Jitsi), but this comes with more administrative effort. In the end, this comes down to how big of a user/customer base you are …
Chose Nextcloud
CryptPad, OneDrive, PicoShare
CryptPad has end-to-end encryption client-side, a feature Nextcloud desperately needs, but much worse documentation, is much harder to setup, obviously slower due to the encryption, and has no clients for any device, it is browser only.
OneDrive is …
Chose Nextcloud
Main feature is the possibility to self host your files and have control over your data (especially if it is sensitive and you want to host the data in house). Others provide good services too, but thinking about GDPR this is the easiest route you can take. Since we use it for …
Chose Nextcloud
We prefer Nextcloud over Trello and Google Workspace as Nextcloud is considerable easier to use, access and manage. Tools like Trello and Google Workspace come with a powerhouse suite of products that are designed to work together. Nextcloud offers a solution that is just the …
Chose Nextcloud
On-premise solution good for control and cost (in our case).
Chose Nextcloud
I'm comparing, but it wasn't a problem for me, because I couldn't use it because of the security of the company that manages our Office 365. But, both allow practically the same options, they are fast, among others. Maybe Office 365 handles the Word, Excel, etc. files better, …
Chose Nextcloud
Dropbox was no longer an option due to their hosting policy. We needed an EU-based solution, preferably open source and self-hosted. There were also security leaks with Dropbox in the past. OneDrive is dreadfully slow, Nextcloud is as fast as you want it to be. On a dedicated …
Chose Nextcloud
Nextcloud is easy to set up an[d] easy to use because of its user-friendly interface. Some of the features offered by this application [are] much better and effective compared to OneDrive.
Overall, Nextcloud is just amazing and as an organization we are extremely happy with …
Chose Nextcloud
Nextcloud stacks up pretty well against Mattermost and ownCloud. I really appreciate the fact that Nextcloud seems to integrate with other products pretty seamlessly and allows for extensibility that our product team can extend and improve functionality without a tremendous …
Chose Nextcloud
As an offshoot (fork) of ownCloud, Nextcloud has a slightly better feature set and more integrations. Both products perform their core function of web-based file access admirably, but Nextcloud has gone above and beyond with the recent release of Hub in version 21. That it is …
Chose Nextcloud
Even excluding the budget and privacy concerns, we selected Nextcloud for its simplicity of use and the UI is very clear.
It just does what it is supposed to do.
Zoom Phone
Chose Zoom Phone
Intregration with other Zoom products ia a real plus.
The convenience to be able to install on so many deivces also increaed the conveneince.
Most other softweare PBX were just automating the call experiece, but Zoom makes the phone client to another level.
Chose Zoom Phone
Full disclosure- I am a reseller of many voce and data services. I am familiar with and have at least trialed basically every voice service available. We choose to use Zoom Phone as our in house system, so that speaks for itself. There is still a small market for on premise …
Chose Zoom Phone
In my opinion, Zoom Phone has a better UI
Chose Zoom Phone
Zoom Phone has more features for our meetings and allows our webinars to work seamlessly.
Chose Zoom Phone
Well Zoom crashes allot so I wouldn't say it holds up great. But Zoom has it's benefits the way things are integrated.
Chose Zoom Phone
Many more features on queue rules, team chats and meetings.
Chose Zoom Phone
Price point was about the same but Zoom included more features for the price. Also the ISO mobile app was better. We were also about to drop Calendly and save some money using the native Zoom app.
Chose Zoom Phone
Zoom Phone seems much better. Nextiva never trained us, or explained the new features. It always seemed to be "in development." Zoom seems more ready for action.
Chose Zoom Phone
User management is easier with Zoom Workplace and for larger meetings and calls offers a larger feature set and better recording options when appropriate. Interactive chat for group meetings is easy to use and encourages participation and attentiveness. The cloud features for …
Chose Zoom Phone
we use teams for internal meetings and internal collaboration. It fits oue environment better. However the phone system from Zoom Workplace is much easier to setup and use than Zoom Workplace calling is.
Chose Zoom Phone
Zoom Workplace checks WAY more boxes than any of these, except I believe that BlueJeans had more permissions (facilitator, moderator, etc.)
Chose Zoom Phone
zoom is better for mobile working.
Chose Zoom Phone
Zoom Workplace does well with both phone communications, meeting communications, and conference room capabilities. It's chat capabilities are inferior to Microsoft Teams as Teams has a higher integration with other utilized tools.
Chose Zoom Phone
Zoom Workplace beat all competitors on price. Interface was easy to learn and use and we had already tried Zoom Workplace for meetings before adding phone services so we liked the idea of having that integrated in a single service. SMS messaging and interoffice chat became …
Chose Zoom Phone
I joined this company after they had already chosen Zoom Workplace is very functional but too confusing for the ties to our e mail addresses, document sharing, etc...I don't feel great about using it and who sees what.
Chose Zoom Phone
The main reason why we switched to Zoom Phone is because our VOIP system inexplicably went down for almost a month and no one could figure out what was wrong. Lumen was charging way more than Zoom Workplace, but could not get the system to work.
Chose Zoom Phone
I only have experience using Teams as an attendee. I believe the Zoom Workplace platform for meetings is easier to navigate.
Chose Zoom Phone
We use Teams still for most things, but for video conferencing and phones we use Zoom Workplace because it is much better and more cost effective, hardware wise.
Chose Zoom Phone
Cheaper, faster, easier for the team to adapt to and use.
Chose Zoom Phone
Nextiva Business Phone Service and Mitel MiCollab
Chose Zoom Phone
Ease of use, pricing was much better, we had Zoom conferencing already so it made using the phone solution easy as we can use the same Zoom Client. The features were more robust than anything else we had seen for a cloud based telephone system. The troubleshooting tools are …
Chose Zoom Phone
Zoom Phone was much easier to manage and use than Cisco. It also allowed us to get off premises and into the cloud. We chose Zoom to move into the future of phone systems.

Zoom Phone/contact center was much easier to setup and use than TalkDesk. It was also quite a bit less …
Chose Zoom Phone
Cloudcall had worse call quality, more dropped calls, and no texting function. All three things improved when switching to Zoom Phone.
Chose Zoom Phone
Compared to Mitel, Zoom is a next-generation phone system that is significantly easier to use than Mitel or Teams.

While searching for tools to satisfy a quickly scaling online startup, we found Nextcloud is well suited for today's remote collaborative team. Nextcloud has just the right toolset for a collaborative workspace including video, chat, many file formats accepted, and intuitive user interface. Comparatively other popular tools like Trello were distracting with more features than functionality. Working with Nextcloud is much like having a workspace with all your content and tools available anywhere on any device, without the ads, distractions, and irrelevant functionality. We will continue to utilize Nextcloud as a remote workspace for evolving and scaling teams.

I think it works well for offices that have multiple locations. Being able to give each person and office their own extension makes it easier for colleagues to connect with each other, plus it's a costs savings for each of the offices

Cons
  • Slow in comparison to other solutions
  • May be complex for the start since there are lots of apps and features
  • May be not focusing on core topics

  • We needed to link each of our team members' personal emails to the Zoom account so we have to filter VM notifications out of our personal accounts.
  • It'd be nice if you could set business hours through the webpage to include a lunch break so that you don't have to manually go in to edit.

Almost perfect. Transformed from just being on my mobile phone. The phone has moved from a ituility to a value driving service in the business. Nobody yet has an AI to help manage the system. Come on Zoom, seems an obvious AI use case.

Usability
It's easy to use and easy to maintain. It also provides many useful programs and plugins to make work even more productive; just check what's available and how you could use them to your advantage. Also, check the Nextcloud Files app on your phone, which makes everything available at the touch of your fingers.

Zoom Phone has a very sleek design which makes it very easy to operate and use both in the setting up of and interacting in a meeting space. That being said, certain features can seem a bit crowded while trying to screen share or display video which somewhat defeats the purpose of the application as compared to a standard conference call.

I never needed support as everything always worked fine. The documentation on Nextcloud website is extensive and clear. The community is very active on the forum and should support you if you don't already find what you are looking for.

Support have been great during the time for implementing Zoom Phones to our team of 50 people. There were times where they kept supporting us through links but more and more we had actual people getting back to us via emails so we are very happy overall. The product is so great, too.

PIM and file sharing are the same as you get in Google's Drive/Calendar. With extensions, you can also implement web meetings (e.g., by using Jitsi), but this comes with more administrative effort. In the end, this comes down to how big of a user/customer base you are supporting. For small enterprises, Nextcloud stacks up very well against its big competitors. At a large scale, you will have increased maintenance and resource costs which you need to check against licensing fees for the cloud providers.

Return on Investment
  • It allowed us access to our files from any device over the internet.
  • It helped manage and organize our file sharing with third parties.
  • It provided a secure wrapper for accessing files.

  • Zoom Workplace has had a positive effect on out business by combining meetings and phones in one place.
  • The collaboration has been better with our staff being hybrid.
  • The Zoom Workplace platform has been more that I expected to pay, but the customer service is outstanding.
