Who Buys & Uses ActiveCampaign

Pros

  • Robust email automation for complex drip campaigns
  • Efficient email management, including scheduling and content reuse
  • Effective audience segmentation and list management

Cons

  • Complexity in user experience, particularly with email design tools
  • Pricing can be prohibitive for smaller businesses and escalates with lead growth
  • Limited direct customer support channels for some users

I should have ditched ConvertKit and MailChimp for ActiveCampaign!

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

ActiveCampaign is being used across my entire organization. ActiveCampaign connects seamlessly to my client portal through a direct MemberVault integration. I use it for CRM, email marketing, form building, sales pages, gamification, and more! What I value the most about ActiveCampaign is its scalability. If I can think it up, I can build it in ActiveCampaign, and that is huge to me as a business owner.

Pros

  • With ActiveCampaign, I am able to build automated engagement workflows for my clients that are targeted to where they are in my unique client experience. We all want targeted and timely information, and ActiveCampaign makes this easy for me to provide to my customers.
  • With ActiveCampaign, I can integrate directly with MemberVault, within which I have built my client portal and all my offers. No double entering information or having to set up a third-party integration to zap my data from MemberVault to ActiveCampaign.
  • With ActiveCampaign's scoring abilities, it was very easy to extend the gamification within my client portal to things my clients do outside of the client portal. Not only can I reward clients for completing modules and lessons, but I can also reward them for reading emails and checking out my social media sites.

Cons

  • Every time I am creating a workflow, there comes a time when I will copy an action or set of actions and the system will give me the spinning wheel of death--until I refresh the screen. This is disruptive and happens so often that I see it as a part of using ActiveCampaign. That is not good, and if another system could do what ActiveCampaign does without this issue, I would leave ActiveCampaign. That is how frustrating this time suck is.
  • I wish that there were a way to input a field as text into another field so that whenever one field is updated, another field's data changes accordingly. For instance, if a client books an appointment with me for Monday and I want ActiveCampaign to input that date plus two days in another field.
  • I wish there was a way to make sales pages and forms pretty. These are so boxy and clunky and there is no modernization to draw the eye.

Return on Investment

  • POSITIVE: Increased my email lists.
  • POSITIVE: I have more information for better decision making and strategy.
  • POSITIVE: My clients feel more seen and heard, and they are engaged with on a personal basis much more than before.
  • NEGATIVE: I am still setting up workflows! Every time I think of a new way to help folks, here I go creating a new workflow, which takes time to plan and set up so that it actually works!

Experienced User Review

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I have been using ActiveCampaign for nearly five years now. I use it for my Newsletter and for automated drip marketing campaigns. Recently, I've taken advantage of the AI features to help me improve content, duplicate success and create email templates. I also incorporate forms created with AC on my website. It continues to be a great resource.

Pros

  • Email reports
  • Automated marketing campaigns
  • Landing pages

Cons

  • AI recommendations could take into account what was done previously.
  • Better embedded forms would save money on use of other resources
  • Integration with social media tools for sharing emails could be improved to send a preview instead of entire email.

Return on Investment

  • Consistent email production easy
  • Setting up and monitoring automated marketing easy
  • More robust forms would make ActiveCampaign an all in one solution

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use ActiveCampaign to email our newsletter out and organize the people who subscribe to it. ActiveCampaign allows us to create automations (particularly welcome sequences that direct subscribers to specific offerings), segments, and different lists, which has been a huge help to our company. It's the only email service we use.

Pros

  • Email Scheduling
  • List Segmentation
  • Email Automation

Cons

  • There are a LOT of features and it can be overwhelming
  • I wish there were easily found tutorials for using different features - if there are things like this, I haven't found them yet
  • I wish they would not push their AI features so much - I do not like them and will not use them, but they continue to pop up first when I go to, say, write an email

Return on Investment

  • It has helped us reach more customers, which has had a positive impact
  • It has helped us target customers' specific interests, which has had a positive impact
  • It has allowed us to automate more, freeing up our time, which has had a positive impact
