  • EC2 reduced the need for many specialized personnel for infrastructure.
  • Reduced expenses in acquisition and maintenance of servers.
  • Reduced costs in configuration of development and production environments, due to virtualization, images and volume management.
  • The perception of many clients improves when you work with an ally like Amazon AWS, which translates into contracts.

  • Saved us money on certain app deployment resource costs
  • ROI has been great on it, as it keeps costs low, and uptime keeps clients happy and us not having to do extra work
  • Security level has been top notch and helped us avoid costly and frustrating up time

  • Instance procurement time has become negligible with EC2. Any developer can provision an instance very quickly and companies can move towards automation of CI/CD pipelines and auto provisioning of EC2s.
  • Companies do not have to spend money in managing infrastructures, data centers, staff to manage these, networking, connectivity etc. All this will be taken care by AWS and EC2 can be used to run your enterprise softwares and custom applications.
  • If not correctly monitored EC2 prices can run up very quickly. So proper monitoring has to be in place in your organization. Non-prod and dev EC2 servers should be brought down in evening and night.

  • It allowed us to solve our scaling issues that the managed service wouldn't help with, but introduced more as we learned how to use it and made mistakes.
  • Allowed us to be more effective as a dev team by having new servers readily available for working on and testing.
  • It has cost more because we use more resources now than when we had managed hosting.

  • Our profit levels on managed hosting has improved with using EC2.
  • We've saved a lot of money on in house servers by using EC2 to host our MSSQL for apps.
  • EC2 has allowed us to offer more services to clients without adding more IT staff to manage.

  • EC2 has helped us decrease the cost related to our web facing services.
  • Uptime has been fantastic, providing constant service for our customers.
  • The options available for sizing of instances has allowed us to pay for the power we require, without loading our servers up with stats we don't need.

  • AWS has had a very positive return on investment for every client we have that uses it. They are saving money in the long run.
  • AWS includes the underlying operating system licenses with their EC2 instances so no longer do we have to navigate through Microsoft licensing headache.
  • EC2 allows us to easily create a golden image of servers and store them as AMIs. This makes spinning up new servers that need a particular set of software in the future extremely easy and cost-effective.

  • Positive Impact - ROI increased since switching backup solutions to our own hosted on EC2. We were paying a 3rd party subscription for their backup software and storage space. Now we have purchased a perpetual license for backup software, re-branded it as ours and have saved month-over-month on costs.
  • Positive Impact - No need for customer support because everything inside of EC2 is self serve. A great learning experience and can work at your own pace to implement/troubleshoot.
  • Negative Impact - Time to inception was a little slower than we'd like. Learning curve for Amazon's products and how to use them.

  • The speed of deployment allows for much faster turnaround times on projects.
  • The tech support is great and allows projects to run smoothly when issues are encountered.

  • We pay only for the resources that we are actually using. When an instance isn't needed it's terminated and we don't pay for it.
  • Allowed us to avoid investing in new data centers in regions where we don't have a presence. We can now quickly spin up AWS resources in new regions.
  • It's taught our developers to treat servers as cattle rather than pets.

  • AWS EC2 has made it easy to transition some of our architecture to spot instances, which has saved us up to 80% on hosting costs.
  • Transitioning to EC2 was a significant investment for us because of its degree of flexibility. Since ultimately all configuration is left to the administrator, there is a steeper learning curve to get started over using something like Elastic Beanstalk to host your apps.
  • Creating EC2 images and launching new instances from these images allowed us to scale some of our services much more easily.

  • Positive impact, because we could setup the instances and automate the backups using the Snapshot service. With about 1 min of downtime every morning, we were able to backup the instance using automated script.
  • With great flexibility comes steep learning curve, we had to spend considerable time getting up to speed with the way EC2's are setup and how to tweak the instance for optimal performance. Wish Amazon offers prebuilt templates for things like this instead of using Docker over EC2.
  • Overall I would consider this a very good investment.
