Overall Satisfaction with Atlassian Confluence

We have being using Atlassian Confluence to write, document and organize internal procedures and to prepare and share user manual with our clients.
We also use it as a place to keep information that all our team needs centralized and easy to find and access, like website access information, what services we are using and how to access them, etc.

  • Text search
  • Comment section

Cons

  • Share documents requires more accounts and licenses
  • Page layout too flexible
  • Document hirearchy not clear
  • It helped us save time with information saved on one place
  • Allowed us to keep track of all changes in each document
  • We could set which user has access to each document
It looks and works very "old school". There are new document tools that have better hierarchy, better document layout and editors, and that we can easily share documents with third party companies without having to pay for more licenses. I think it looks like Atlassian Confluence is stuck in time and needs a full revamp to match current tools.
We still use Atlassian Confluence only for its integration with Jira and Bitbucket. For everything else, we moved away from it and are using more modern solutions.

If the company or team only need the tool for internal documents, and its a small team, it may be a good solution.
However, if the team requires documents to be shared with third party, or if its a big team with documents being constantly edited by a lot of people, it may turn in a very complicated tool to use.
