Overall Satisfaction with Atlassian Confluence

Atlassian Confluence is used for documenting all our processes as well as our software solutions that we maintain. This is the place where we can direct new developers on where and what to look at to better understand our infrastructure and how our solutions interact.

Pros

  • Makes it easy to write documentation, with direct links to our software repositories for specific code samples.
  • Has a large selection of formatting options making it easy to present difficult content in an informative way, by utilising the formatting options to elaborate and highlight specific text sections.
  • Atlassian Confluence makes it easy for all team members to maintain and collaborate on the documents that are needed when working on our projects and solutions.

Cons

  • Occasinally it is difficult to find a page containing information where you only know some of the content. Especially when like us there is a lot of content with similar naming.
  • Has increased our knowledge sharing and being able to quickly onboard new team members.
Searching can be a bit daunting, especially when you are trying to locate a topic which you are not sure about the content to search for. Also given the size of our Confluence site, the search results can seem overwhelming, when doing a content search.
SharePoint in out organisation was mostly used for collaborating on documents, which to some degree has been moved to Confluence, where the Confluence pages have replaced the specific documents.

Yes

It is well suited when working on documents in collaboration. Each team member is able to update the content and because Confluence sends out an update to members that have requested notifications when a document is updated, these team members can also see what the new updates contain and give there comments if they do not agree or have further information to contribute regarding that particular topic.
