Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Basecamp is used by a very small portion of our team. This project management tool is the application of choice for our mobile developer team who work remotely. It helps us communicate with them in a space that they are used to, thus streamlining how we manage tasks, bugs and projects with them.

Pros and Cons

Very simple interface anyone can use
Inexpensive if you have a huge team or want to use it for multiple clients
An amazing founding company story and vision

Can't do the advanced things you can in other project management tools
Not the best at forecasting or measuring how many resources your teams have
Not as strong if you use it for everything (e.g., file storage and messaging)

Return on Investment

Better communication with a remote development team
Fixing bugs with the mobile applications
Refreshed view on the Agile methodology we use everyday!

Alternatives Considered

Asana and Trello

As mentioned before, we only use Basecamp for our remote developers so it's in fact chosen by them. I see Basecamp as a much simpler project management tool that's great for small companies. I did see they did a rebrand recently so I'm curious to see what's next for Basecamp and I may give it another go.

Support Rating

Haven't been in touch with their support team, but they have plenty of video tutorials, help guides and the ability to send a message to the support team to get detailed help. They say the response time is 24 minutes which is pretty incredible. I certainly feel I'd be taken care of shall I needed to contact support.

Likelihood to Recommend

Basecamp is a simple project management tool that has the potential to replace other tools you're currently using. Whenever it comes to apps like this you need to think what your team requirements are and how complicated you want your project management to be. If you need simple to-do lists and there's not a lot of volume in terms of users, projects and tasks, Basecamp could be the right tool for you.

In my role, I need to plan much more in advance and seeing the work unfold visually is the most important factor for me, so I wouldn't rate Basecamp as highly.
