Overall Satisfaction with Dropbox

We use Dropbox for safe backup and ease of access to our files by members, and to share large files with suppliers and the peope who use our services.

Pros

  • The ability to synch files between the cloud and your own pc
  • The ability to keep selected files on your pc so you can still access them when no internet is available
  • The ability to keep selected files only on the cloud.

Cons

  • I find the online interface very confusing. It takes too much time to work out where you are in the file tree for a busy person in my opinion.
  • I've found only admins can create or delete the top level of files and you need to log in online to do it. It would be much better if this could be done from file explorer on your PC.
  • The menus could use some improvement. We seem to get bogged down more than necessary trying to find out how to get to the sections we're looking for. The online experience is not overly intuitive.
  • Related to the above, usage statistics are arduous to find in my experience.
  • Even on non-profit discount, Dropbox is way expensive. If there was a cheaper alternative with the ability to store files on both cloud and pc, we would switch.
  • The lack of end to end encryption I believe.
  • Not having to shovel files backwards and forwards has saved us hours and concern about having the latest file version.
  • Dropbox takes much of the worry out of a files backup process and greatly improved our workflow
None of the alternatives allow you to keep the files on your pc as well. If we found one that did, we'd probably move to it, as Dropbox is really expensive, and we're not sure about privacy issues with Dropbox.

Do you think Dropbox delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with Dropbox's feature set?

No

Did Dropbox live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Dropbox go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Dropbox again?

Yes

Well suited for working collaboratively and convenience of having automatic cloud backup. Very useful for restoring files when you lose your hard drive. A great feature is the ease and ability to share files with people outside of the organisation. Even though we've not used it yet, it's comforting to know the rollback feature is there if we need it. We find administration tasks to be unintuitive to use. It takes too much time to work out how to delete a user for instance in my experience.
