Overall Satisfaction with Dropbox

Dropbox provides a central repository where we can easily store and share files. it allows us to collaborate with third-party partners by sharing just the information that we want them to be able to see. Dropbox has very robust support for various file types this is essential when sharing video and audio for example. The scanning feature on the mobile app is also quite good and allows business forms to be quickly uploaded.

Pros

  • URL sharing of files
  • Storing of files in the cloud as well as on local Storage.

Cons

  • Some room for improvement in navigation. For example, moving from a search result to revealing the file on the desktop is a little cumbersome
  • Meta data tagging is not very robust
  • it has allowed me to replace Storage devices, saving on cost
  • I’ve been able to cancel other SAS solutions and use dropbox in their place saving $200 a year
For the most part searching and browsing is very intuitive. Once you get past the route level, though it gets a little confusing to show the enclosed folder, sometimes especially in a search result. folders of audio files on no where near as intuitive as a platform like SoundCloud. But for straight up storage of files and being able to share those files with other users, it is very straightforward. Inconvenient. Choosing which folders are synced locally is not an easy thing to do. It requires going into preferences and selecting specific folders and turning them on and off to save on hard drive space
  • Box
Fox seems more geared towards large corporation seeking and enterprise solution. Dropbox seemed more appropriate for my needs being a small organization and also for personal use. For example a user looking to expand their local hard drive, as well as looking for cloud backup and disaster recovery for their personal files

Dropbox is great being a central repository of all of your files. it is also a great way to share. Select files with other users. it is a little limited in terms of using it as a central digital asset management system mostly because of navigation limitations and a lack of an intuitive interface for example when, sharing a folder of audio files.
