Overall Satisfaction with GoodData

I used GoodData to build an interactive view on a public dataset with my brand colors and some customization. This allowed me to guide viewers on what the data highlights. So they can focus on the geographic display of each category and select the categories they care about the most.
Give a qualitative visualization to data that refers to the quantity of categories.
  • Easy to use
  • Interactive
  • Fast to display
  • It doesn’t allow view without login while it should
  • It can limit comparative analysis
  • I wished it dealt with Big Data from start
  • The login requirement limits scalability of indirect monetization of data
  • The interactive features can serve as a prototype for data products
  • The ease of use allows you to brainstorm ideas quickly
GoodData requires some reading and getting the data on your own website comes with limitations. But once the visualization is embedded and if viewers are ok to create a login, the visualization is easy to play with and looks great. It’s an alternative to Tableau as it works with different dashboards and architecture.
It took me a week from the start to embedding to have a chart on my website. And I tested it with a couple of viewers that struggled to log in from the website. It is possible to create an API and customize this a little better, but I wished the visualizations worked like Airtable sheets instead that are easier to access.
Compared to similar products GoodData is more ethical and has a more robust set of options requiring no development skills as Power BI does, for example. It’s in my opinion one of the top 5 solutions out there today. And definitely one of the best for iteration with a team.

No

Did GoodData live up to sales and marketing promises?

No

Did implementation of GoodData go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy GoodData again?

Yes

Good Data is faster to use than Tableau. Therefore leaner and more user friendly. It allows people to manipulate the visualization in a way that makes sense. And it doesn’t depend so much on tutorials like Tableau does. The learning curve is much faster.
It’s perfect to show data to existing users by embedding visualizations on your website. It can this way instruct your community about things they all need to share to interact better empowered by knowledge from data. And it can serve for building a user base on data visualizations. Just not a fit for data visualizations that are ideal without a login.
