Overall Satisfaction with Google Hangouts
It's being used as "the communication tool" for the entire company, an Argentinian software company. There are no phones, only Gsuite tools, and Hangouts is used to chat, call, video call and not only with company employees but also with external participants as well, because most people have already a Google account and probably even experience with the tool itself, making the whole process easier.
- One tool, many uses: chat, audio call, video call, interact with Meet or any other Google tool, perfectly integrated.
- One tool, any platform.
- Cell phone? No problem.
- Tablet? No problem.
- PC? No problem.
- No matter what OS you're using, you can Hangout.
- One tool, many people to connect: almost everybody I know has a Google account, or even the other way around, I think I don´t know anybody without a Google account, so they're all a potential Hangouts contacts.
- You may find a low video quality comparing with other tools and pointing specifically to video calls.
- It's not the lightest chat tool, it's phone app is rather slow.
- The way it handles group chats is not my favorite.
- Hangouts provides a cost-transparent worldwide communication tool, having no hidden cost issues no matter where you are or need to be around the globe, as long as you have an internet connection. This allows having employees around the world, working in remote offices or from their homes, with the same experience as someone on the company's headquarters.
- The interaction with all mobile tools makes it part of a very productive suite and helps improve and maintain productivity across all staff.
- It helped to reduce the deployment time for any new facility or office location in nearly 75%, due to its ease of use when it comes to set up the communication infrastructure.
- Skype and Skype for Business (formerly Lync)
The cost-benefit ratio has no point of comparison between one and another. At the time of evaluation, Skype (free account) of course was very limited compared to almost any other service paid account, and Skype for Business was too expensive for the benefits and/or tools it offers.
On the other hand, the overall evaluation of the Google Suite Tools (user administration, deployment scenarios for previous and new users, etc.), left no doubts regarding what was the correct choice to make.
