Overall Satisfaction with Hybris

We use hybris to run our flagship B2B eCommerce properties. It's currently used across all customer segments and is leveraged by many internal business units within the company. We use hybris to host websites as well as web services and leverage CMS, cart, search, and many other platform features.
  • New technologies. One of the reasons that I like the platform is that it's in constant improvement. It feels like some of the competitors are bloated and slow to adopt new features in comparison.
  • Wide range of features. Many out of the box features for common commerce paradigms.
  • Scaleability. We have had no issues of scalability even at what we feel are high volumes of traffic.
  • After the acquisition by SAP, It's becoming more challenging to get personalized support.
  • While the market has been getting better, it's still difficult to find qualified resources.
  • Dropping of support for Endeca and replacement with support for Solr hurt search features.
  • A slow start with an integrator who was learning along with us drove up project cost. Word to the wise, the right integrator will make all the difference in the world.
  • When leveraged properly the product enables faster time to market because there are many out of the box modules for common tasks.
We selected hybris over Oracle ATG several years ago before it was owned by SAP. It was also before Oracle owned Endeca. A couple of the compelling reasons at the time were newer technology and good support for endeca for search. Since then the acquisitions have happened and SAP/hybris have chosen Apache Solr as their search of choice. We decided to keep endeca and wrote our own integration as to not rely on the deprecated libraries. As for if ATG has kept up and updated technologies, I am unsure. hybris has an ever evolving roadmap and new features come out continually. if you adhere to their standards, upgrades are typically fairly straightforward, so ease of keeping current is another key benefit.
Hybris fits well into a large development organization and will need many disciplines to fully leverage. It should fit very well into SAP heavy environments and recent roadmaps indicate a tighter and tighter integration in the future.

It would be a challenge for a smaller shop to cultivate the kind of knowledge diversity necessary. Getting the initial momentum may also be a challenge if you do not have a good implementation partner, at least in the early stages.
