The Gold Standard of Email Testing
Overall Satisfaction with Litmus
Litmus is perfect for device testing to ensure emails render consistently across all devices and email platforms. We send close to 10 million emails per month on behalf of our clients and Litmus ensures the emails are optimized for everyone. I also utilize the many different templates that are included within Litmus. The templates offer a variety of layouts and are easy to implement. In addition to the great render and building tools, Litmus has the industry gold standard for SPAM testing. The insights that are provided with the SPAM tools are crucial to improving deliverability and maximizing email results.
Pros
- device rendering
- spam and delivery testing
- well designed email templates
Cons
- additional tools to incorporate social icons into templates
- embed videos into emails via YouTube or Vimeo links
- richer inbox placement data
- Shortened email review cycles in an agency setting with the ability to share tests with clients
- The code editor clearly identifies errors in HTML which is a significant time-saver and helps with overall campaign results
- Rich spam testing to identify any potential issues prior to sending has decreased bounce rates.
Litmus has provided options to integrate with many of the tops ESPs. However, for our business model and the ESPs we use, integration is not an option due to a lack of support. It would be great to see Litmus partner with some of the smaller ESPs to integrate with them as well.
Unfortunately, Litmus email metrics are not something we can integrate into our model. Due to the industry focus of our marketing, we have seen a significant amount of bots or spidering activity causing false clicks events. We have a home-grown tool built to identify and remove these bots. If Litmus had a solution for this, it would be a game-changer.
Litmus' proof feature is used frequently to share device tests with our clients. It's as simple as one link to see the email across dozens of ESPs and devices. We simply provide a deep link directly into the client's test. The best part is there is no login required to view the deep link. This allows us to share tests with clients without sharing any login credentials.
Email on Acid has a similar UX as Litmus, but the layout is about all that is similar. Litmus' device renders always match the actual test to that device. I have seen several mismatches within Email on Acid's device renders vs what is actually received which makes me question other renders within that platform. I have never run into this mismatch with Litmus.

Litmus Feature Ratings
Using Litmus
4 - We are the marketing agency side of the company that supports marketing efforts on behalf of our clients. Our team of four women uses Litmus countless times a day to build and test all email campaigns we send for the hundreds of clients we support. Litmus is a tool that is crucial to support our business model successfully.
We do not have an internal team to support Litmus and honestly, one isn't needed. Anytime I have had to reach out to get assistance with anything within Litmus, I have always been able to utilize Litmus' blogs, videos, and support to solve for anything I have run across. To be fair, everything that has needed support has ended up being operator error and Litmus was quickly able to assist.
