Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft Power BI

We use Microsoft Power BI for generating quick and eficient dashboards so we can check data quality, model quality, and the main KPI we want to check with business. As we are mainly data scientist this is a very powerful tool for this quick prototiping + it is easy to connect with the databases we use.

Pros

  • Easy to learn
  • Quick to deploy
  • Easy to interconnect with other systems

Cons

  • More customization for the plots
  • More robust data model
  • From taking months to deploy in Qlik to days in Microsoft Power BI
  • Not having the capacity to manage large quantities of data in excel to manage it easily
It is easy to learn to anyone that already knows something of excel at a basic level. You can quickly create a beautiful dashboard in a few hours with a very tangible impact on business. You can also connect it to SQl Server, Snowflake or any other database without any problem
In the case of Tableau or Google Charts, thay have a lack on customization and on the options they have. For Qlik Sense, you need to spend too much time on the data model for doing quick tests or data validation when comparing it to Microsoft Power BI. Also, Microsoft Power BI is faster and easier to share within the company

Do you think Microsoft Power BI delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Microsoft Power BI's feature set?

Yes

Did Microsoft Power BI live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Microsoft Power BI go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Microsoft Power BI again?

Yes

It is very useful for quick prototiping, creating proofs of concepts, making sure your data is matching in different sources.

It can be less useful when trying to create very big and complex data models, when sharing it via the desktop app for people that is not used to the app.
