Overall Satisfaction with Miro

We heavily use Miro in product development process. Starting from writing insights from researches, trough ideas generation, to solution prototyping. It helps to start writing much easier than just a blank page. So we do almost all creative job here, and only after it is done transfer it to Jira. At the same time, we used to have all our roadmaps in Miro, with linked Jira tasks. It helps us a lot to have most tasks on the one page. But here is the biggerst thing missing for me - syncronization of start & finish dates between Miro and Jira. It is also a great tool for collaboration - we constantly use it during our group calls just to note if something is discussing to be on the same page. It helps us a lot to make meeting summaries, or even present monthly results. So overall it is a great tool for product team, to work with ideas and tasks, as well as keep us synchronized with project managers, designers, and developers.

Pros

  • overcome "blank page" paralysis
  • note ideas
  • present monthly results
  • jira sync on tasks

Cons

  • jira roadmap sync - is not updating start and finish dates in 2 directions (jira -> Miro and Miro-> jira) as it is done in Notion
  • roadmaps columns automatic widening while moving items
  • sometimes objects that are placed within frame are not moving with the frame
  • improved creativity of the product team
  • less cases of dis-align between teams
  • more resultative video calls
Started using Miro in 2018, from private accounts, then small teams and after that for the whole company. During this way we had no support in Miro implementation from Miro team.
It went pretty easy. Teams love this tool - it is very intuitive and you can start using it on the spot no matter your background.
Admins also set-up all the integrations with jira without any questions. So it looked pretty easy for us.
There were some issues with updating jira tasks statuses few years ago, but now it works fine.
Process of moving boards form one account to another is a bit awkward, and so we spent some time discovering where these options are, and found answers in documentation on the website
We are working in remote since covid, so the ability to effectively collaborate within zoom calls is crucial for us. Miro is one of the bedrocks of it. It helps to start talking about new features, while keeping documenting our thoughts, and make it seen for all participants to stay on the same page (which is very important for when someone can be distracted at some point of time, but stay in the process)
Figma is more designers tool, and it is much more complex in terms of navigation
Other competitors form 2018 I dont's really remember, but Miro was better for group collaboration, so we spoted on it

Yes

Yes

Did Miro live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Miro go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Miro again?

Yes

well suited:
- start thinking
- ideas generation, brainstorming
- collaboration and alignment (incl. zoom calls)
- presentations and presenting ideas and results
Less appropriate:
- roadmapping (not very convenient without full sync with jira)
- team retro (we usually use specialized services)
- sprint planing (not convenient tasks importing and cards voting)
