Overall Satisfaction with Miro

We use Miro for several business problems. Two main business problems are solution design for applications. Here Miro is used to assist in the interaction with the customer. Step 1 is to understand the customer need. Step 2 is to propose the first designs. This can be a simple use case are any other method depending on the complexity.
The second business problem is the design process towards a target architecture and roadmap for a customer. Here Miro is used in many steps and workshops as design, collaboration and presentation tool. To interactively design an application target architecture for an organization.

Pros

  • Large canvas with practical design features.
  • Many designed templates and the ability to save your own templates for re-use purposes.
  • The ability to collaborate on Miro boards in different ways, making it easy to process the new data.
  • The Miro abilities to make summaries over large groups of data are really useful.
  • The ability to group data in frames and easily order them is very useful.

Cons

  • When using tables, when using icons in cells. It would be nice to be able to automatically have the icons for instance centered in the cel. Now resizing the table will not move the icon.
  • Not all shapes that have text in them can be exported, either export to csv or via the API.
  • A more difficult option is the ability to learn Miro on how to organise specific information on frames. For instance based on a design template raw information is organised according to the template.
  • Reduce 200 sticky notes to a tangible summary in seconds. Saving a couple of hours in reading and organising the data.
  • Working together will creating diagrams and content, with easy commenting. Cheaper than the old Visio, where collaboration is not there by design.
  • On time design, save a template and re-use many times. Saving time and money.
I am using Miro in combination with Microsoft Teams and the webtool Shortcut.
Comments on a Miro board are instantly available on teams which keeps me informed on progress.
We make designs and prepare other data, like use cases in Miro and share them on the Shortcut projects. They are live visible for the developers.
We us the ability of remote working to sit together via the Miro boards. We use the ability to force remote workers to sit isolated when we get to the stage of voting on items on the boards. This allows them to be concentrated and prevents new discussions. By having the Miro boards we are also able to easily have hybrid teams to work on the information.
The flexibility of Miro in designing, collaborating and creating content that the customer understands is a big plus. All the features that Miro delivers are beneficial and available for us.
Miro is really focused on collaboration and creating content which makes the difference. The mentioned tools are focused on features that the user may like, but there is not as much focus on the reason why content is created. Understandable and shareable.

Supporting different types of workshops where different types of data are discussed can be easily supported using Miro. Preparing and organising the information. Making summaries and in the future also automatically creating designs are great features of Miro. The availability of many great templates is a big plus.
Less suited is the creation of serious business presentation. Although Miro still can deliver specific data.
