Overall Satisfaction with New Relic

New Relic is being used for an added layer of platform health monitoring by my clients. It is used to capture performance metrics and analyze the data to keep an eye on performance trends and action on any negative performance. It gives them a view of the platform and remote services performance that they would otherwise have to use multiple portals to view and gain access to.
  • Performance Reporting.
  • User Friendly Dashboards.
  • Ability to publish and provide access to dashboards can be clunky.
  • Alerted us to issues before they became a major revenue impact.
  • Helps identify performance improvements when updates are made.
  • Keeps us confident in our releases and stability awareness.
Having one dashboard to see performance at-a-glance improves the efficiency of our team. Having this overall view of performance enables us to monitor high traffic events during peak periods and gives us the holistic view of any and all performance metrics giving us the ability to react quickly and engage the needed teams to resolve the issue.
New Relic keeps us confident in our releases and gives us the ability to quickly catch a regression and act on it. New Relic is definitely a big help regarding cloud adoption since you can test and compare performance before and after a migration.
Alerting is a major benefit when the platform itself does not offer this feature. During off-hours, these alerts come in handy letting the team know there is an issue, and with deployments occurring overnight this is key. If regression occurs that was not found in testing in a lower environment, this helps us catch it and act on it.
All of these apps have pros and cons. AppDynamics is very powerful and provides excellent reporting and deep dives on performance. Tableau Desktop's setup can be a bit tedious, but once it is done, it is a great tool to provide visual performance reports. However, the lack of alerting puts it below New Relic.

Do you think New Relic delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with New Relic's feature set?

Yes

Did New Relic live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of New Relic go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy New Relic again?

Yes

New Relic is well suited for organizations to identify and analyze performance issues. Performance can be compared between releases so regressions can be identified and performance gains can be confirmed. It also provides the ability to set up alerting so on-call teams can get notifications if something happens during off-hours.
