Overall Satisfaction with Optimizely Web Experimentation

We are in the process of setting up Optimizely Web Experimentation to be used for marketers for AB testing and personalization across CapitalOne pre-authenticated website.

Pros

  • Easy to use UI
  • Good documentation
  • Supportive team for additional help
  • Willingness to accommodate feature requests

Cons

  • Need increased control from an administrative perspective
  • Would like a form-based editor by default for users who need more flexibility than the visual-based composer
  • Risk team liked the ability to track test plan approvals as a workflow through Exp Collab
  • Having both Optimizely WX and FX allow us to centralize the experimentation platforms we use at CapitalOne
In theory, the scalability is great especially across different lines of businesses at our company. Having separate projects for each line of business allows for better controls between each project. However, since each project is a different snippet, it makes it difficult to work with our Single Page Application for Site. When the visitor moves to the next page, which could have a different snippet, the previous snippet will be pre-loaded.
We have not done this yet but we plan to use Exp Collab with Optimizely WX to track test plan approvals. Currently, we are using Optimizely FX for EASE (post login experience on mobile and desktop) and Optimizely WX for pre-authenticated Site experience
It is convenient to centralize experimentation as a whole and since the overall architecture for sending data to Optimizely is the same with some differences for each product, that simplifies integration for us. Bundling various products together potentially means a lower price point than having a bunch of products from various vendors.
We are still in the process of setting up Optimizely WX but so far it seems to work well for our current and future use cases. One example is being able to send secure data to Optimizely without exposure on the client side. Since Optimizely allows us to send this data server side to both Optimizely FX and WX, it fulfills our Risk requirements

Optimizely Web Experimentation is well suited for AB testing, its main limitation is not having a contextual MAB but that is changing today. With the CMAB developed, Optimizely is great for all forms experimentation from AB testing to personalization
