Overall Satisfaction with Parallels Remote Application Server
Parallels Remote Application Server has addressed issues we were facing with our overseas offices running into latency issues connecting to our ERP system. With our end-users connecting to our ERP system through Parallels, it has increased productivity and now allows users to use our ERP system remotely without the need for a VPN. We have also incorporated the Parallels Remote Application Server into our Disaster Recovery plan, allowing us to switch our end users to our DR site easily.
Pros
- Reduces/eliminates any latency issues with remote users
- Allows users to connect without a VPN through HTTPS
- Enable-IT to publish and maintain one installation of programs instead then to push out updates to multiple PC's
- Provided us with a way to allow outside users of our organization to connect to our systems, and Parallels gives them a way to reset their Active Directory passwords when they expire. This was essential for us to remain compliant with our audits.
Cons
- When users are prompted to update their Parallel client, the system can be a bit finicky. Users cannot use the "Update" button but instead, use the "Download" button and then run the update manually.
- Requires additional Microsoft RAS licenses along the Parallels Licenses, you will need to purchase the Microsoft RAS licenses from your Microsoft vendor separately.
- Productivity in our overseas offices has increased.
- Our sales staff has been able to assist their customers while on the road using an iPad (our ERP system does not have a mobile app), resulting in increased customer satisfaction.
The management of Parallels Remote Application Server was much easier, the cost of licenses and yearly maintenance was lower, their support team was much more helpful then their competitors and the initial server setup was faster. We had our system up and running in as little as a few hours with our ERP system fully published.
We are not currently using VDI. We are merely publishing applications to our end-users.
Our sales staff has been asking us to develop an application to allow them to use our ERP system on the go without relying on a laptop. With Parallels Remote Application Server, we did not need to invest time developing a client app for our mobile users. We published our ERP client desktop application in Parallels Remote Application Server. We used the iOS / Android version of the Parallels Remote Application Server client. The benefit was it allowed our sales team to serve their customers better, increasing our customer satisfaction.
