Overall Satisfaction with Parallels Remote Application Server

During the Covid-19 pandemic lock down our users had to go offsite and continue their studies and work remotely. We use Parallels [Remote Application Server]:
To delivery existing high specification Windows workstations to users off site (who have any device, basic PC, MacOS, Chromebook etc.)
To expand and automate delivery and access to software on the AppsAnywhere hub offsite using virtual servers to users with any device.
  • Automate remote connection to a computer from any device
  • Automate remote applications from any device
  • Integrates with AppsAnywhere application streaming
  • Application servers needed complex firewall settings access to license servers
  • Requires some Microsoft RDP licensing but little guidance offered
  • On premise version takes considerable IT resources to set up, allow 3 months
  • Short term helped maintain business as usual during pandemic
  • As part of a longer term strategy to reduce cost of purchasing software and hardware
Sassafras, Labstats were also considered. RDS can only provide 1:1 connections
It is automatic allocating computers and remote applications to individuals without manual intervention, and having already used AppsAnywhere for the delivery of applications it extended that through the same portal. We did not have to purchase high specification computers for users who were forced by the pandemic to work remotely.
Once set up[, Parallels Remote Application Server] works easily - any user with any device can securely log in and obtain the resource they need.
We user Remote Desktop Session Host servers and Desktops, with Parallels RAS, and for the applications use AppsAnywhere.
Paralels [Remote Application Server] uses Secure client gateways authenticated by single sign on.
Support was provided by the third party supplier, who helps as best they could despite our less agile, flexible, responsive and customer centric IT infrastructure
